Where is the best place to get gig tickets for a sold out gig?

I've only ever bought tickets from ticketline.co.uk or gone to the box office of the gig itself. If the gig has sold out then I have just not gone.
A friend of mine and me really want to go to a gig that is sold out. Yesterday another friend of mine said they had a ticket spare as one of their friends can't make it.
That would be great but the problem is I still need another ticket for my friend. I looked on scarletmist with no luck and I looked on Ebay but as expected the prices are very high, the face value of the ticket is £20 (not including a couple of quid for postage) but the prices on Ebay are £50 plus which my friend definitely can't afford. I saw a pair that were £90 buy it now but we only need one.
If it comes to the day, then we know the touts will have a field day with the prices as its not a big venue so tickets are limited.
Anyone got any other ideas? Thanks in advance.
