Refused an account with Grattan!

Had no idea where to put this really...so please bear with me!
Just had a letter from Grattan saying they are unable to offer me an account. Say they use a 'credit scoring system' and my score was below their required level. Also say they are unable to disclose any further details.
I feel somewhat insulted as I have never had any debts and have never been refused an account with a company before.
Does anyone have an ideas as to why an account might be refused?
Thanks

Have you moved house recently? I had exactly same problem with Grattans few years ago and it turned out we weren't on electoral roll.
I assume this is the case everywhere but we get form once a year asking us to confirm correct name and address for electoral roll purposes and it had to be returned by 15 October (I think).
Have you over looked this?
Only other thing I can suggest is sending off for your credit details.0 -
I've had this problem with Grattan too >:(, couldn't understand it either, I have accounts with GUS, Littlewoods, La redoute & empire stores, never missed a payment and have good credit rating ??? But as far as i'm concerned now if they dont want my money/custom they can stick it, i'll spend my money elsewhere ;DNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

The stupid thing here is the credit scoring - the more debt you have the more likely you'll be given more credit!!
Because you haven't had much credit this means you have 'no credit scoring' - in other words they have no records of what sort of re-payer you will be so you are a higher risk. Even if you can prove you can well afford it. Also the more you apply for credit and get refused the more you WILL be refused! It's recorded and goes against you.
It's a REALLY stupid system but it means that you mat have to get a few store / credit cards to get your scoring up.
Better still, save up and buy it from the high street. Catalogues only rip you off in interest anyways!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you!0 -
Thanks F-H ... only applied for an account to take advantage of a freebie - but might have bought more........does make you think tho...what a crazy world ::) ::) ::)♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0

Yes Allexie.
People wonder why others let their debt spiral out of control - it's because it's offered on a plate and it's easy for it to take over.
It's diabolical and should be done on means testing and not how much you already owe!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you!0 -

I completely agree with this, I took up an offer with discount codes through this site at Kays about 3 month ago, first statement i recieved said I had £250 credit, nothing else purchased but made minimum payment, 2nd statement my credit had increased to £500 still nothing else bought and minimaum payment made, 3rd statement received this morning, my credit limit as increased to £1000, If I had the inclination I could get myself into so much debt its unbeleivable :-X its no wonder so many people are in such terrible situations. >:(

I used to work at Grattan a long long time ago and a lot of people were turned down. We were always told it was because they judge you on your address not you - don't know if it's changed bt that might explain it.

That was a long time ago TD!!
Because of probelms with previous tenants bad credit affecting other people they now do it by individuals. They do ask for any prev adresses in the last 3yrs to check you ain't left any debt behind, but they no longer go by that unfair criteria.Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you!0
