IKEA - whats the big deal?

DW finally talked me into going to IKEA at the weekend and all I have to ask is what is the big deal? I don't know what I was expecting but basically got a glorified MFI store. Yes many of the prices are cheap .. however even then that did not make many items value for money .. equivalents of other items were available elsewhere for the same or less.
Also, apologies to the staff, I was responsible for breaking several of the lights on display .. you only had to touch them and they fell apart.

I have to ask, what did Anne think about Ikea?

Id have to disagree, there is no comparison to places like DFS for some furnature in my opinion. Im buying a new bedroom suite and some of the money places like DFS and Harveys looks for furnature is scandalous. For something similar IKEA is nearly 3 times as cheap.
Some people may quibble about the longevity of these products and how if you spend more initially then it'll last longer. But I tend to look upon it differently whereby if I get 3/5 years good wear from them, then Ill be ready to change the style of my room by then....0 -
They have a free creche for the over-3s. Heaven!Stercus accidit0

Does the creche have to be pre-booked and is it true that it's limited to 45 minutes?0

I'll bet she didn't think it was a waste of her time though

Yes she did because I didn't have to get my credit cards out onceEdinburghlass wrote: »I'll bet she didn't think it was a waste of her time though
In fact she was glad to get out given the trail of destruction I left in the lighting department

Actually your thread reminded me of my very first visit to Ikea in Newcastle long before they opened in Edinburgh. My friend and I drove down early one Saturday morning and spent the day there leaving only after filling up the car! but... I have to confess some of the things we bought were purely and simply because they were so cheap we felt we couldn't leave them on the shelves.
I still have some 50p photograph frames unopened from that trip
but I am still using the £1 clock :j 0
