How do I get 'evidence of borrowing capacity?

Hi, going through a divorce and I have to show the Court my evidence of borrowing capacity, so I phoned Barclays Bank, (two accounts, an ISA and a shareholder!) and they wouldn't give me an estimate or quote based on my salary, they said I would have to make an offer on a house and fill out an application form for a mortgage to be offered a mortgage quotation. So stuff them when I need a mortgage in a few months time - they can go whistle! But my question is, how do if get this evidence?
any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks LL

Surely they can't possibly know until you provide them with details of your salary and monthly outgoings and then maybe details of the property you are interested in?0

Your wage slips? Any other money you have coming in - maintainence etc?
Theres loads of calculators online which can give you a rough figure of how much you should be able to borrow.0 -
Thanks for your help. I will try the online calculator but not sure if that will be 'enough' for a Court to be satisfied. I'll email my solicitor for clarification too.
Really miffed with Barclays - what's so wrong in a two line letter saying, 'based on the salary you gave us, our estimate of your borrowing capacity would be £X .
I love this website btw, haven't had time to properly explore it yet, but I feel another addiction coming on!!:rotfl:0 -
I am sure a whole of life independant mortgage broker would be able to give you something in writing. That would satisfy the court.0
