Possibly for when they are applying for references - if you worked in a large organisation, your employer might only be able to trace you through your payroll no.

  • when you are in a commission only based role, do you have to be on the payroll system (paye)?

    thanks

It depends on the contract between you and the 'employer'. If its a contract of service you are under PAYE, if its a contract for services, you are not.

A contract of service means you are an employee, and a contract for services means you are self employed x

I would have thought this was the case - dh has to use his payroll number anytime he contacts HR - large org.

However if you were paid through a computerised payroll system, even with a few employees, most systems allocate a payroll no - for, example I am no11 at work - even though I only process 7 salaries. It will be on a copy payslip somewhere.
