Hi everyone, just put another £200 into my savings. Just over 5% of my target now, so going up slowly and steadily
I'm waiting for an old debt to be paid back to me as well, don't want to count it until i've got it in my account. It will be going straight to my savings. Been promised half by the end of the coming week, we shall see!Any idea's as to what i could do to boost my savings pot?

Nada in the pot for me this month as I decided I'm gonna visit my family in the states this summer.
So what I would normally save has gone on my flight, but I really feel I need to live a little as well as save for my house deposit. And on the mse side I booked using a price comparison site and got the cheapest flight by over £100 and I wont be paying for a hotel as am staying with rellies!!0 -
Another new month and have added another £455 to my house savings. I now have just over 6% of my savings total0

Thats fantastic news! Im switching jobs this month to a lower paid oneBut hopefully better prospects for the future and flexi time. Means i wont be able to save quite as much although i should still be able to max out my 5% halifax regular saver.
Im going to have a look through all my boxes of junk 2moro. Going to throw away what i dont need and see if i can get anything on ebay for the rest.
Only 8 days until my final payday of my current job and 2 weeks until i start my new one!

Thanks Jim
I'm proud of myself I've never been good with money hence how I managed to get myself into debt BUT having sorted it all out this is the most I have ever had in savings as an adult!!
Good luck with the new job - I hope you enjoy it and the drop in wages doesn't hinder your saving too much0 -
Just a short update on how we are doing with our savings and life and stuff.
I got an allotment this week!! I'm so chuffed. Its really overgrown and is going to be really hard work. Its £36 a year which is ok.. but we need all the tools and equipment which is working out expensive. I spent £100 in the garden centre yesterday.. and thats just the start. Still, its an investment. The tools have 10yrs and lifetime guarentees so should last. Also, its a hobby and you have to spend on them. The OH might give up his £40 pm gym membership as he'll be getting a work out on the allotment! I can't see us saving any money by growing our own this year but maybe next year. We'll see.
I also started a 'Clothes Making' course this week. Its an adult ed course and was £90 for 10wks. Now I've got to fork out for patterns and fabric! Still, once I've got the skills I'll be able to alter and mend clothes and that might save me a few quid. I might even progess and be able to make my own cushhions and curtains... but that day is a long way off.
After a lot of thought I've decided to stay full time at work for now. We've been promised extra staff so it will take the pressure off me a bit. With the evenings getting longer, I feel I no longer need that extra day to do things. With all my new ventures (sewing and allotment) the extra cash will come in use. I still have to pay £750 per month into regular savers so I have commitments. I'll review the situation after the summer.
I've started my S&S ISA for this year. Just £50 per month into First state asia pacific leaders. Hope it does ok. I might choose one other.. maybe an all share tracker. As for my cash ISA, i'm not paying into that for this year..yet. I have the Halifax 6%saver account so my £3600 is in there until IR pick up. Howver, I did transfer all previous years to the Halifax ISA.
I got a free £25 goodwill gesture from A&L this week for a major error they made on my current account in January. Would have liked more for the hassle they caused me. As soon as my 8.1% is up I'll be closing the account. Besides its not my main current account anyway. I just keep it topped up to £2500 to get the rate.
Well thats all for now. Welcome to all new posters to this thread. Keep saving! :T£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
Hi All
I would like to join your interesting thread, if I may.
I too am saving for a deposit although I may even decide to property outright (I have dreams!).
Well, so far I have around 9,600 pounds saved (over 2 years). Many miles to go but I am also looking into ways my money can work for me.
Oh, and I am a strong, determined female in my 40's and making up for lost time after some mistakes of the past, which we all make. Have most of my money in an ISA pot.
Well, any advice gratefully received. Looking forward to reading further posts.

Well update as i have disappeared for a while we have £5k saved now and 50% towards our target. BUT fell in love with a house we viewed on Sat (didnt expect it to be so perfect otherwise wouldnt have gone), it has everything we need for a LONG time, plenty of space and we would be able to live in it without having to do major works - it needs damp-proofing though. Anyways, its £129,950 - the lady said she would take £120k which probably means 110-115k but do you think 100k is too cheeky? That is all we can afford really - maybe £105k at a push. We are on £25k annual and not sure we can get more than 90k mortgage - We are young so dont mind an initial lengthy mortgage term. Its only been on the market for 3 months, hoping it will still be there come christmas
Anyone know the average time a property is on the market before it sells? xDFW Total £21,800 to clear by Dec 2022
MFW Total £184,950 £179,066 to clear by 20350
