Quick update - tax due this month so expecting a big fall in total as laid out below. Business is suprisingly rampant so have to count myself lucky and make the most of it!

Just received notification of another ISA (that I'd kept elsewhere) and the interest earned last year, which has added just less than £300 to my total. :j Now creeping ahead to 61.11% of total savings.

Two regular savers out today, which will be another £500 onto our total when I can check they were taken out.

Also we cleared the last of the debt last week so all money can now go towards the house. Although OH did just call to say he'd crashed the car  so God knows how much that will cost us!

  • I would like to add myself to this list please, RoxieW (What a good idea this thread is, well done)I have literally just become debt free for the first time in 12 years, and am finally in a position to think about getting on the housing ladder. I currently have an overdraft of 1K, which I will hopefully pay off next month (I don't count this as *real* debt like my previous loans), and I have currently £250 in an ISA with Natwest (paying 3.5% I think. As soon as my OD is paid off, I will be able to afford about £1000 per month saving, as I'm currently living back at home.

My long term plan is to get 10K, or more by next summer, and then see what state the housing market is in. I'm looking to spend around £100K on a property, but have specifi requirements which I am loathe to negotiate on, which may hinder me. I want a house with a nice garden, preferably on the outskirts of a town\village, quiet street, garage, 3 bedrooms, enough roof space for a home-done loft conversion, poss. a cellar too. I'll have to wait and see I guess.

Anyway, that's me and my plan! I will read this thread with interest to see what other people are up to, and how their plans are progressing. Good luck all!

Welcome to the thread and good luck with your saving!

You will be lucky to find all that in a house for 100k, the house you describe there would be closer to 250k in my area. But it cant hurt looking and it sounds like you will be looking to buy at about the same time as me so stick around in this thread!

It can be done in my area, but only if you're willing to live in the middle of nowhere. The bigger worry would be having only a 10% deposit, if you can get a mortgage at 90%ltv in the next year I doubt it'll be cheap.

Haven't checked in for a while, am doing okay, madly selling things off online to make space and $$$ for the savings. Probably a crap hourly rate sometimes lol but I find it fun and it is I guess at least a free hobby :rotfl:

Am only up to 16% of my goal savings so far, oh well...

Decided not looking to buy this year and maybe not next year either, since I will probably move after that ... sometimes it is such a mission trying to figure out what I am doing lol :o

At least you're adding to your goal, and a little bit here and there does start to add up surprisingly quickly!

Are you selling your things on eBay? I've put my stuff on there, Amazon and Play (not 100% on the latter) and not sold a bean so you're doing a lot better than me there!

Dipping my toe in the water here.

I've followed this thread from the beginning and think its time I got serious and jumped in.

I'm looking to save £45k which should represent 20% of the house I want to buy as well as £5k for fees (if that is realistic). I have about 25% saved but really need to kick start this properly. I'm hoping to start matched betting this weekend once i've read that board a few more times.

I realise that I need to get a grip and stop spending my money on rubbish, lunch, shoes, clothes etc etc, especially things that don't last but dent into my savings.

Its really encouraging to see other peoples targets and things they are doing to help them save. I hope this will keep me motivated so that I can achieve this target.

    Thanks
