I used to participate on this thread a very long time ago! My life completely changed as I met my husband and got married, but we finally saved enough deposit and had an offer accepted on a house in August. It does take time the save, and house prices are insane, but it is worth it to get there in the end
.
Finally bought a homeStarting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £192,984.78/CENTER]Overpayments since 27.03.19: £52,341.430 -
So was a strange month. Moved a lot of money around as thought I had bought somewhere only for the seller to change their mind a few days later, so borrowed about a grand from different savings but hoping i can live cheaply for a couple of months and replace the grand without physically taking money from anywhere else. Got a couple of viewings this weekend in the £135-140k mark. Cant decide whether I should keep saving to maybe get the 15% deposit or go 10%, buy some nice things for potential house and then overpay mortgage.
Last month's total £15971

So that changed quick, found a house which needs some work. Knocked them down 12% so low £130's as it does need work (nothing structural, more the kitchen has been trashed by tenants. Offer accepted yesterday evening, solicitor sorted today, mortgage application booked in for Monday. Fingers crossed ::jAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0 -

Hi! Couldn’t help myself and I had to check how is everyone doing! We’ve been in our house for just over 6 months and as it needed a LOT of work done any surplus money goes on it. So far we’ve done bathroom, downstairs toilet, tv room, living room and garden (gardens are so expensive!!!) so still have bedrooms and kitchen to do. We reckon we will be done by Summer and then start throwing money at our mortgage. I’ve seen you were talking about ex-council houses and I would really like to chip in with my view on this as we live in one. When we were buying I wasn’t really looking at the area we are living in now but my OH persuaded me to. We are living on the edge of the estate and the next street over is where we would look for our forever house in the future so it’s really not that different, neighbours are really lovely as well! Another thing I have to mention is that house was built and insolated very well (makes big difference in this cold). All in all I would say not to completely rule out ex-council houses some are a great investment or a step up on the property ladder. Xxx0

Going to keep doing this as I don't trust nothing going wrong on this house purchase (survey went fine this week and mortgage company confirmed they are happy)

Regardless of whether this house comes off I am so proud of my savings since April despite several challenges on the way. My free TV savings fund also passed £800 this month so should have a nice one for when the house completesAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0
