I'm hoping house prices will be the silver lining to the brexit cloud for us as first time buyers.
I'm waiting to see if the bank cut interest rates again before we start looking for a broker to get an agreement in principle so that we can secure the best possible mortgage deal. Then after that we should have a few months to play with to see how much lower prices will go!0 -

Then so be it...
My mother was financially ruined by a divorce and both had about equal incomes while they were married.
Just that nobody expected him to get schizophrenia and lose his job for her to be stuck will all costs (and there were lots you might not think of).
Life is long, about anything can happen...
Just as salaries can develop and change, when we married I, in fact, earnt 1/3 less than him.0 -
Hi Sanne, funnily enough I also had my first chat with the mortgage advisor the day before the vote. I think its possible rates will drop in the short term but I expect them to start rising in the next year. Whatever happens I think we have a few years uncertainty ahead so we're going to look at 5 year fixes. I'm hoping we'll be able to negotiate a bit off purchase price tooMFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140

Why?! That's a bit of a backwards way of thinking!
I haven't been on the thread since April. My set weekly overtime didn't really work out as such but I have been doing some overtime, bloody tired with pregnancy though! We have £3800 currently, I need to drill our budget again as it got put aside in a busy few months! Thankfully we've bought a lot of baby things for the impending child, got a brilliant bargain on a good pram/buggy and the biggest expensive thing we need now is a car seat and the base, which can wait until baby is ready to move up to the next stage seat but if a good offer on the pair comes up we have the money set aside to buy both! Nearly £400 for the pair though, it's a hefty chunk of cash!Saving for a deposit: £5,400/£20,000

July Update £30,125.48
Wow, I've hit the £30k mark! June was a good month, managed to save an extra £200. I also went to see a 2 bedroom new build in the next town from me. It's in a well sought location and in my price range but after listing the pro's and con's, I decided against it.House Deposit: £28,000 and still saving!0 -
Hi all,
Me and hubby are saving for a deposit, just hit £10,200 so over the 10k mark! What's the maximum age you can be usually to get a mortgage? I probably shouldn't be worried about such a thing but it feels like it will be ages until we can get something. We currently live in the Thames Valley and the house prices are insane (we are both from areas of the UK where a quarter of a million would buy you a small mansion).
I'm hoping both me and hubby get pay increases soon due to promotions which will be extra savings since we're currently living well within our means and could probably tighten the purse-strings a bit more (saving £600 a month) but I do get a tad jealous of friends who are having holidays etc. and seem to be living a bit more than I feel we are but never mind!Love Piggy-banking and YNAB!0 -
June update from me (drumroll please):
I saved £1,615, which makes my 2016 (to date) total £6,336 and my overall total £101,543.
I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally hit £100K!

Well done Tara! That's amazing
Cashbackproblems I find your point of view very strange. What's wrong with a female earning more than you? You mention the difficulties for women who have a partner who earns less if they get divorced but how is it a disadvantage for men? I earn more then my (male) partner and don't see a problem.Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0 -
