Monkey: We're just going to ee what's on the market, we need to be near a mainline station so newbuilds are pretty much out as none are going up near the stations we are considering! Husband will have an hour to hour and half train commute depending on which area we live in so we don't want to make it much longer.

Naynay: I'm about to sit and make a chart too, I like visual representations of money oriented goals! How old is your daughter? Is she old enough to cheer on/chastise when appropriate and join in the fun?

I've just agreed an extra 5 hours a week at work, which isn't much but it's an extra £40pw, I'll likely have more extra hours on an ad-hoc basis too as I usually do! I usually average an extra 4 hours a week from that and it's usually tacked onto the end of a working day so it's not really a big ask. I now have a month off over summer too so I will see about getting some work from old employers during that time and grab some work from my agency too.

My Mum works for a company I'm keen to get work with after maternity leave (for career progression reasons as the pay is shocking!) so that will help towards the end of next year, she can put in a good word! I don't intend to go back to working outside of the house until at least September 2017 though so I still need to find other ways of brining in the cash from June. My husband has been matched betting and is really enjoying it so I need to have a look and work out how to do it too!

My stumbling blocks are that I will be buying alone (I'm a single parent) and in London which as everyone knows is stupidly expensive.
I've opened my Help to Buy ISA with Halifax and now I'm currently waiting for payday on the 18th to fund it and start this journey properly! I've made a chart and explained to my daughter what I'm doing (and why we won't be having so many takeaways/eating out now!), she's going to tick it off each month and show us how close we are at getting to our goal. Thanks for reading :-)

    Hello!
Just wanted to say good luck, keep us updated on your progress. The chart idea is so cute, ah. What a great example you are setting your daughter. We will be cheering you on. It will be very tough but you're going to do it and it will be an extraordinary achievement.

I'm almost at the 45k point now. Definitely sticking with no holidays again this year as I'm getting close to my target.

Been a good'ish year for me so far a ton of overtime at work, almost 800 every month so far this year.

So my current savings (with Mrs) is 79.5k. By end of May it should be 81.5k. I started saving exactly 5 years ago. So 81.5k in 5 years is incredible, beyond what I expected.

I'm currently looking at hourses my daughter is 4 months old and we need our own place. The problem is that most of the houses either need a whole load of work or some don't need any work are out of my budget.

I think I'm going to go for one that needs work done and get it done myself according to the style we like.

    Good luck to fellow savers.

    Hello everyone,
I have been following this for the last few months and it is now time to start posting i think. I opened up a help to buy isa in December, currently getting 4% (guess who i am with :p) So i am sitting on £2,200. My GF opened one on the last day of April so is now sitting on £1,400. We have decided the earliest we can move is December 2017, which is very very close when you think about it! I am currently saving at the same time in other accounts but for other reasons. I am really not sure how much of my other savings (roughly £350 per month) to put towards the deposit, I have told the GF i am saving more however it is not all for the house because i would very much like to buy a ring and make her more than just my GF! :A
Anyway i am at work now so i will do a proper post maybe later today to give my real position.
Well done to everyone though it has been an exciting read over the last few months and i cant wait to join in! :j

    April Update

I managed to save £800 in April. Which brings my total to exactly £28,000 :j:j:j

Like I've mentioned in my previous posts, I have no idea what my target is. At the minute, I want a big deposit but as I'm 31 (and single:(), I'm not sure how much further I want to save. I'm still living at home and don't earn a huge amount of money but I do well to save roughly between £800 - £1000 per month. I'm also living in the midlands where house prices aren't that bad compared to other places.

May looks set to be another challenging month. It's my mums birthday next week and I have a week off work at the end of the month which always results in extra spending and days out.

Going to push had to hit £29k by the end of May. Wish me luck!!
House Deposit: £28,000 and still saving!

Right folks it's been a while!!

I've pushed my deposit savings up to £5,300 and am on track to beat my annual target of £9k this year, so I'm really pleased with that.

Just finished an exam so the bonus for that will go in the pot as well although I might keep some back for clothes :rotfl:

Keep going all - I agree with one of the posters above, I'm finding this first £10k a bit hard, once I get past that bit I think I'll have more momentum :)
