There's much excitement tinged with a bit of 'gawd I hope I don't balls this up'.

I might stay in this thread after completion for purposes of saving towards a lease extension.

Congratulations Jim! Will you be in in time for christmas?

    I doubt it.

It's a probate, so bit sides chain free, however I can only move as fast as the mortgage application and conveyancing.

    I'm thinking January or February.

  • I'm currently saving for a deposit.

    My goal is approx £20k.

I plan to save £400pm, but I already have £900 sitting in a lifestyle saver account.

As I don't qualify for the HTB ISA.... Planning on opening two different regular savers at 4% in January and taking full advantage of those, thus giving me approx £5800 by the end of 2016. (Don't particularly want to switch my bank account to M&S or First Direct or similar, so will make do with the 4% rate)

I would LOVE to try and make this a nice round £6000..... we shall see.
  • Hello everyone! I'm new to the forums, but a long-time lurker... Congratulations to everyone who is resisting the Christmas splurge in favour of their dream home!

My OH and I have each opened a HTB ISA, and deposited £1200 each. He has a further £3400 and I've got another £13,600. We're not really sure how much we want to save, but as we are both sole traders with relatively meagre net profits, we're trying to stockpile as much as we can.

Christmas also clashes with our birthdays and our anniversary, but we've scrapped presents this year, instead just opting to stick with the spirit of saving, rather than gifting!

Yay, so pleased to hear of everyone's progress! Christmas shopping done here, and I've just opened my HTB ISA with a £1,200 transfer from one of my cash ISAs. Which HTB ISA did everyone go for??

Welcome to the thread, BelfastFTB and Tea&Biscuits :)

I went for the Halifax ISA and I've transferred it all over too. I totted up my figures last night and it's around £11.5k. There's a few discrepancies as I have some money coming to me, my PayPal got wiped by some fraudster (£1600!) so that's to come back and a few other jobs I'm waiting on to be paid for. Not bad going but another £24k to go!

These 'htb' ISAs came far too late for me, but never mind, I'll probably stick with my current ISA whilst saving funds to extend the lease.

  • Hello All,

It's been a good few years since I was last here, but i'm back now :D

Had loads of changes in that time, mostly using my savings for an MA course and with other changes I did some travelling, so life most definitely got in the way of saving for my deposit. It was needed though, gotta look after ourselves sometimes right? :)

Updated my signature with my progress. Just opened the Help To Buy ISA and am determined to get saving as much as possible in 2016. Home ownership is still the dream, even if the timeframe may have changed! …after all, its never too late :T

Loved catching up with all the progress, congrats Tara747 well impressed and motivated by your saving! :D

  • Hi all

I opened my HTB with Halifax and will continue saving elsewhere as well.

Good to see all the progress being made despite Xmas being here - we can do it!!! Let's see how much we can stash away in 2016 :T

My OH has opened his HTB ISA, we went for Halifax. We can't afford for me to have one too just yet (also saving for wedding/honeymoon) so I won't open one till next year. Feels good to have taken the first step but such a long way to go!

My current plan will have us having a 5% deposit for a 250000 house by April 2018... (thinking H2B Equity loan new build) obviously if there are new builds in the area going for cheaper a little sooner (perhaps closer to the 200000... or less! I can dream....) we might get a house a little earlier, and I might be able to do some additional savings too after the wedding but haven't accounted for that. We live in Birmingham and it varies a huge amount by area and housing developer, some new build 3 bedrooms are well over 300000 but in rougher areas a 4 bed is under 200000 (3 bed should be sufficient for us), where we live is lower endish but somewhere in the middle and so prices might just go out of our range.
