  • Official saving for house will start very soon! I'm sure I won't be the only one - help to buy isas opening Tuesday :) glad I'm not the only one looking at spring 2018 and all this work just for a measly 5% on a new build... Life's expensive when renting though. Just hope we can grab one of the new builds in our area, they are doing big redevelopments and making a new town centre, it's already getting much nicer just worry by 2018 we'll be totally priced out...

  • I'm really hoping that the extra 3% stamp duty for landlords will help to slow down house price increases come the summer, it will likely mean that renting gets even more expensive as landlords pass on the cost to tenants.

Even more motivation for us all to save save save, it will be so worth it when they hand you those keys!!

I doubt it will have much if any affect on prices to be honest. But to let may become less attractive to would-be property investors but there will still be competition between people buying to live.

  • Morning all. Currently have £5k in my Deposit fund, but with a wedding (albeit a budget one!) next April, I'm struggling to add to it rather than take away...

I desperately want a house; I hate renting. I've no idea where I'm going to buy, when I eventually save enough. I'm currently based near Reading, but am originally from Manchester. I have no real tie to either area (but I'd like to live near the beach!). I guess it depends on where I can get a job when the time is right...

    November Update:

Ending the month having saved £800 throughout November bringing my total to £24,800. Not quite managed to reach £25k but that's fine. I'm certain to reach it by the end of this week.

December is going to be pretty tough for me. From next week any savings I manage to make will go towards paying off my credit card for this month and most of January (Xmas gifts mostly). Should only take two weeks of savings to clear it so it isn't too bad and then hopefully start aiming for £26k (with the aim of getting to £30k by April 2016).

Will also be hoping to open a H2B ISA in December putting in the maximum amount each month. Still unsure whether to include to 'Bonus' to my savings total or not.

    Until next month, goodbye!
House Deposit: £28,000 and still saving!

  • Hi All,
My first and last post here! I kept meaning to post but never got round to it.
We were hoping to buy early next year, but the new stamp duty rules forced in to buying early (i have a btl).

Me and my girlfriend saved £8k and £5k last year and this year we managed to get this to £17k and £10k with £5k coming from parents to make up our 10% deposit of £32k.

It took a lot of time and saving..message to everyone else just keep at it and keep going!

There's much excitement tinged with a bit of 'gawd I hope I don't balls this up'.

I might stay in this thread after completion for purposes of saving towards a lease extension.

  • Christmas shopping, arrrghhh!!!

Sure does threaten the savings goal :P Managed to still put away another grand, bringing me up to 23k. Opened a help to buy ISA. (Though I wish they brought it out earlier!) Planing to start looking to buy in Feb/March.

Hope everything works out for you Jim!
