A friend knew I was trying to pay off my debts- mainly 'cos I wanted to be honest about why I couldn't afford do things at times. After I told her I everything was paid off and I could start saving for a deposit I got (jokingly) called a !!!!!. However, she's been really off with me since and I can only think the green eyed monster is rearing its head.
She still has debt but she also has a house brought when prices were a lot lower and so is probably in a better position than I am.
I think saying I'm saving is fine but I'm not going to mention any amounts or goals to anyone in real life after that.
That's the sort of reaction I'd fear from friends and/or family, tbh. I thought I was being silly, but it seems that a few of you are in the same boat.Mad really, because saving is something to be proud of.

Savings going well this month
Glad to hear others are doing good too!
Managed to save 20% of house deposit target0 -
Hi everyone
Me and my OH are saving for a deposit and will hopefully be in a position to buy by next year. We've had a few set backs such as having to move house at pretty short notice when our landlady decided to sell, all the moving costs and estate agent fees ate in to our savings but we're gradually getting back on track now.
We've only got about 5k at the moment but by next summer we should have doubled this, and my parents have very kindly offered to contribute.
My OH thinks we should make an appointment with a mortgage advisor now to get an idea how much we could borrow and what our options are, but I think it's too early and we should wait until we've got all the deposit together.
Does anyone have any advice on what we should do? I've never seen a mortgage advisor before (obviously!) so I'm not sure how it works, do you pay them for the appointment or do you only pay them if you end up taking a mortgage through them?0 -
September update. Finally it's payday!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm getting more motivated each and every month.
I saved £1,200 this month, which makes my 2014 total (so far) £8,170 and my overall total £82,295. I'm so chuffed :beer:Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Total deposit: £30,664.65 that's a huge £1,219.40 this month!!!!! Over the moon as we've smashed our £30k target. Next target is £35k so £4,335.35 to go.
Though we may have found somewhere... Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!0 -
Another naff month for me saving wise. I keep on stopping for snacks on the way home from work and this is a habit I REALLY need to stop as it's all adding up
and added to that HMRC were slow processing my P45 so I ended up on the "noncum" code and paying approximately twice the income tax that I should have
I'm pretty sure there's a cheeky little monkey in the family who has a birthday coming up as well... Plus the car servicing + mot is due in December.
So I've fallen short of my £625 monthly target and will be lucky to bag £400.
But at least I'm only approximately one month away from meeting the deposit part of my overall target, I'll soon be saving for the fees.
#Update:
I decided on banking £475, which takes my running total to £19'476.92.
I'm sure I'll be overdrawn again at some point in the coming month but hopefully not as much as the past couple :A:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16
:T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T0
