Well.. I fear that the rising prices will push me out of the market, it's unlikely I can do much to significantly increase my income.

But I really wouldn't worry about when or when not to buy. The truth is that market is going to do what it's going to do what ever an individual's situation.

So.. my plan is to ignore the market and to buy when I'm ready and I can afford to.

Unfortunately house prices are rising like crazy here. It really is quite depressing that although I'm doing well with my savings I'm probably worse off every month that goes by.
I also feel nervous about the prospect of buying because I feel that house prices are currently completely nuts and I could make a terrible mistake by possibly jumping in at the wrong time!
How do you guys feel about it?
    Evie :)

Trust your gut instinct. I did, several years ago, and then the market crashed here by 60-70%. How glad am I!

Where are you? There are definitely some top-heavy parts of the UK at the moment, ripe for a crash. London especially.

  • Hi,

Wondering if I could join in?

I am earning around £17k including my Sunday shift allowance.

I want to save up £30,000 so that I can buy a house. With my earnings I would probably get a mortgage of around £60k

I am wayyyyyyyyyyyy at the start.

    Saved up £1300.00 so far.

I am 31 & would be looking to buy when I am 40 so I am here for the long haul.

Well done everyone on your savings. Had a wee read but not the whole thread & wow some of those amounts are impressive.

I am looking to save a minimum of £300.00 per month.

Any funds I have left at the end of the month will go towards that also.

Total for June... £26,087.66 so increase of £88.81 not great but only just started work, hoping for 300 quid this month

Total for July - £27,938.27. That's an increase of £1,850.61 this month!!!!

£2,061.73 until by target of £30k! I'm going to try and get there by September :)
  • Well, after surpassing our target, we managed to save a little more toward the deposit and have finally taken that huge step! After viewing a numerous properties we finally agreed on one absolute gem and had our offer accepted! So, mortgage agreed, waiting on a completion date now. It was a long old road getting here!

Reading and contributing to this thread give me a LOT of positive thinking, especially when things looked bleak with no jobs and whatnot. It was so good to be on the journey with so many other people and hearing their developments. Good luck to everyone still on their savings journey!

  • Congratulations puppetmaster, I hope I get there too some day!

This month has started out very well as I got a small bonus from work, all I had to do was my job and the jobs of 2 other people multiple times over the past year and push myself to the point of exhaustion.

Still, it's paid off as I've now smashed the £5000 target for December and instead pushed it up to £6000 by December :j That involves my usual 10% of monthly wage plus a little extra saving or Ciao earning here and there, so doable but does remain as a small challenge.

Finishing off the next volume of my eBook at the moment so once that's done I'll be having another clearout and selling anything I no longer need, money from both book sales and selling stuff will be going towards the savings.

Pretty standard month saving wise for me, I'm just plodding along now expecting to put away between £600-650 per month.

Currently sitting on £18.6k and am on (or slightly ahead of) target.
