We're having to revise our deposit saving target........ If we want to have a semi-decent mortgage rate on a semi-decent house then I've read that some mortgage lenders want 25% deposit. In our area, that means that we have to save £40k. I'm sure that we can do it, but our target has been revised upwards over night by £10k!!!!! And we're only half way there...... :(

  • Neas tell me more about the cashmere savings as I'd love to get one but don't want to pay full price?

Well done jamtart - hope it goes ok for you and you get it for a good price!

We were hoping to buy in Spring but the housing news gets gloomier and gloomier. Still we will continue at around £1,000 a month and keep fingers crossed. If nothing else, it's nice to have the deposit there in case things worsen - ie: redundancy etc. But with luck next year we can buy, it's good to have this thread with like-minded people who want the same.

Omg am soo soo happy didnt think I was going to make my £10,000 goal this year since I've had car trouble & expense and I am Single so only have the one salary to support my savings but I unexpectedly received some £ from a family member, and have now exceeded my 2008 target albeit only by £300 but every little helps!

EagerLearning it was a combo thing that i found out from here and paidtoshop.

    Essentially here are the details:

    2xCashmer jumpers original RRP £40 each (£80)
Less 'Reduced to £25 price offer at tesco' (Total Cost now £50)
Less Tescos 'All clothes 20% off last weekend' (Total Cost now £40)

SO with offers on they were already half price during last week (think they still at £25 now as 20% off all clothes ended)

Now here comes the really clever bit:

    I used:

1x News of the World 'spend £30 at tescos get £5 off' (total cost =£35)
1x Tesco Spend and Save coupon 'spend £30 get £3 off' (total cost =£32)
1x £10 off when you spend £40 on clothes at tesco (SUN coupon) (total cost = £22)
1x Neas' Set of coupons (worth around 17 quid) (total cost to pay =£5.71)

    Couponing, every little helps :).
  • Wow! I aspire to that level of savings :D It shows that although every little helps, keeping your eyes peeled helps too :rotfl:

I think that overall MSE has saved us £2,500 in 2008 alone, so as much as possible of that has been saved and squirreled each month towards the deposit. On the weekend I will see what we have 'left' and then place that in savings too, before the joint account gets 'replenished' ;) via standing order.

I got paid yesterday, so a little more money was siphoned into my ISA. That's still the difference between what I was paid per month before my payrise and after......

DH keeps promising to top up his ISA, but to date that hasn't happened.

Edited to say: DH has just thought (before I typed the above, apparently ) that he'll have a shower and THEN top up his ISA! :D

  • The power of thought eh ;) He clearly got the signals

Another £60 left over in the joint end of Nov, which has gone into the ISA. Then £500 as normal went in yesterday.

That means both ISA's are now full bar a few hundred. So next month will have to find a new home for the usual £500. Can't wait until April! :T
