We have pencilled in buying our land next year, but who knows what will happen?
I'd love to do a self-build (Grand Designs addict here), but sadly I think that's always going to be beyond our reach!

Im 22. Have saved £19k so far, OH has about £200 (both amounts in ISA's with Halifax).
Our aim is to knuckle down and save £500pcm each next year, give up a holiday (or possibly treat ourselves to it for doing so well if we stick to our plan).
Aim is at least £30k in time for when the house prices start to increase again
Dream house is a 3 bed, drive, cul de sac or quiet location, new/fairly new build property with front and back garden. The vision is to be doing the dishes (sad i know) looking out of my kitchen window and watching my little boy and girl (note: we have no children at present) playing in the back garden with our choc lab Rolo. Either the above of a gorg 3/4 bed victorian terraced house with a big bay window with all original features. Thats dream house no 2
I pray to god this is what he wants for me and this is what is coming my way
The plan is to live in this house forever0 -

How weird Im 24 and have exactly same dream/plan (no terraced house though i need a drive for the car) i've managed to save £31k also in the halifax lol while the girlfriend has £250 in her ISA.
If things dont work out for either of us i know who to call lol:beer:
Target wise im saving as much as possible until the times right to buy or a bargain comes along. Every few weeks a new house pops up which is cheaper and better than the previous one so im in no rush.0 -
Just crossed the £8000 mark this morning.
Just on target for the year leaving 4 months and £4000 to save in this financial year.
After spending hundreds and hundreds last year on each others christmas present including a trip to New York; this year BF and I are limiting how much we spend on each other to £100.
Hope all well and happy!!Quit Smoking 12 years 2 months.0 -
Hiya Eagerlearner,
Can u pls tell me what ISA u have invested in that saves u £500 a month and at how much capital? Its that V r trying to save for the deposit as well, but from last two months some or other unavoidable expenditure is making life more difficult to save and we were thinking of investing in an ISA so if u can pm me rgdg this kind of saving, it would be a huge help!
Thanks in advance.
Hi Pia, sorry don't quite understand your questionWe are saving £500 per month to MrEL's ISA, as mine is now full for 2008/2009. In April mine will 're-open' again, and so will his. However we hope to be buying by that point.
It's not investment - it's a Cash ISA for savings, which means you do not get taxed :T As Martin says, it has a 'tax free' wrapper around it, but it's still cash.MFW #185

WE DID IT!
Made my original goal since joining this thread.
Saved £30,500 out of a £30,000 initial goal. Am still going to save 1k a month and keep our savings growing.
On a second saving target we are trying to get (in parrellell to above) 4k for a car for the wife (1 litre Citreon C1 etc)... half way there too!. Wifes car is pants wont pass MOT next May unless we pay 500 quid for repairs... better to get a economical cheap car.
WooooH!
A friend we used to know has 20k on her credit cards/loans... cant imagine having that much debt... certainly would be a put off for any new Boyfriend for her!.
I cant beluieve how people just spend outside their means... the 'want it now' ... attitude sucks. A friend at work put a 900 quid laptop on his credit card.... cause he wanted it. Got blueray, big 20" screen etc. Wife and I just got a laptop too... yea you guessed it... 280 quid from tesco... used topcashback, dicount codes and free sim delivery option.. bringing it down to £265.00
We got a trip to london this weekend so next months savings may be hit a bit.
I think im quite a scrooge but Im finding really interesting ways to maintain our lifestlyes while saving alot of money... like the laptop....
I've ebayed things i'd normally chuck, I've got into couponing, tesco points, bargain codes, shopping around, getting the cheapest thing (i.e the laptop) to still suit or needs.
For example this weekend I paid £5 for two cashmere jumpers (£40 each RRP) from tesco. Used NOTW coupon, SUN COUPON, other coupons and got it right down... nice jumpers for Primark prices :P.
Or the fact we went for a meal yesterday, now you may think a meal would be expensive 40-50 quid +... Well we used Tesco clubcard vouchers... to pay for the meal and paid 3 quid for the tip and 2 quid for parking.... 5 quid for a meal :P.
My wife thinks im coupon crazy, but since i started like this our saving rate has gone up so much we can actually save for a house and a 2006 ish car for my car this spring :P.0 -
well done neas!!

Nice one neas!
My savings took a hit this month, I, err, bought myself a "project car". Still, could work out very MSE considering how little I paid, and the fact that getting it road worthy will be a hobby (I won't be paying out much for labour, just parts)
I've given up on my new "8k in one year" target, though I won't be far off it. Not too bad considering my calculations at the start of the year gave me a max possible savings of 5.5k for the year - no idea how that happened lol!0
