we are keeping up £700 per month which is what our mortgage would be, so we're putting that away for our deposit to get used to not having it. OH has a job interview this week which would bring a bit more money in, so we may up the monthly savings if possible to try and get a bigger deposit together

Wow, what a great thread!
Me and my girlfriend having been clearing debt/saving for 18 months now and we are getting closer to our end goal of £36,500!
Instant access £18000
Isa's £6300
Stocks and Shares£4000 put in, worth £2500 but my parents will lend against them
Putting away £2050 each month so will be there by the end of March if we dont buckle along the way! Im hoping 25k deposit should be enough unless they start droping LTV's to under 90%.0 -
Hi all
I've only just found this thread, but it seems really encouraging in the midst of all the doom and gloom. I would like to join in, as you can see my current totals are small (as are my wages I might add!) but my initial goal is £20,000. I am currently saving 50% of my monthly income. We are newly graduated, recently married and renting, but hoping to get our own house at some point:money:0 -
We're saving £500 per month into an ISA and £250 each into easy access savings.
Currently have a clear £20k available (finally money back from Icesave this morning).
In addition we can both put in £2k each = £24k.
Thinking of getting a mortgage offer soon, in the hopes it would last 3-6 months, as the 10% LTV offers are drying up.
Any ideas if that would work?MFW #185

Quick update from me. "Previously on": Flat in negative equity, want to sell it next year and buy house with OH. Saving to cover negative equity.
On Saturday, I went to Sainsbury's to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels. I'd read on one of the other boards that they had it on sale for £13 (down from about £19). I don't usually shop in Sainsbury's. Went in, and they'd sold out so no £6 saving. On leaving, I side-swiped a lamp-post while reversing out of my car park space d'oh. Dented wheel arch panel = £150 down the drain. Worst attempted at moneysaving ever
Anyway, that aside, I've managed to add almost £1k to my savings this month and now have £2,400. :T0 -
I have been a bit silent lately and so has work tbh. Not counting interest earnt I have managed to squirrel only £800 away last month and so far this month have managed £500 but hopefully things will pick up in the next couple of weeks.
I was hoping to have hit the £45K mark for December but will have to settle for £40K instead unless something miraculous happens in the next 7wks!DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
We will hopefully be at £25k end of this month - joint ISA will get £500 and each of our personal savings accounts £250.
Christmas will take it's toll so prob £500 saved to ISA In Dec, meaning we'd start 2009 with £25.5k which has taken 4 years to get to, fingers crossed it will get us something depending on mortgages then.MFW #185

Hiya Eagerlearner,
Can u pls tell me what ISA u have invested in that saves u £500 a month and at how much capital? Its that V r trying to save for the deposit as well, but from last two months some or other unavoidable expenditure is making life more difficult to save and we were thinking of investing in an ISA so if u can pm me rgdg this kind of saving, it would be a huge help!
Thanks in advance.0 -
I should be on track for my targets even though my pay rise has been delayed. (And if its not backdated there'll be trouble.....) said in a homer simpson style.
However, a lot of my friends have started using this site now, and when I was recommending it before (months and years before) it was poo pooed. They didn't need to control their spending cos they earnt enough and there jobs were safe. Or so they thought...
Funny how they all come over to the dark side in the end....!!!
Seriously though, people have over spent and lived beyond their means and now the inevitable pay back has arrived. I dont want people to suffer or lose the homes etc. but "STOP WHINGING ABOUT IT!!! YOU SPENT MORE THAN YOU HAD NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY IT BACK!!!"
Do feel sorry for people like the car workers who haven't got work for a few months. Anyway rant over.
(I often come on here and rant. perhaps I should have some anger management.)Current mortgage 133k
Purchase price 171k
Fixed deal ends sept 2019
Current repayments 640pm
Savings approx 60k0 -

I think the pay back has barely started personally. The car workers have my absolute sympathy, but it seems they are luckier than many right now, some training to fill tha void period and minimum wage while they[strike]look for another job[/strike] wait for work to pick up. Not nice for anybody though.
well, we went to the Homebuilding and Renovating show at the Bath and West showground today, and while there was not as much there to see as we had hoped we feel really excited about self build. We have pencilled in buying our land next year, but who knows what will happen?
