Yet another unplanned expense for me this month. I accidentally sat on my glasses and drastically bent them out of shape to the extent that they look both ridiculous and are irritating to wear.

So I splashed out at specsavers. There's more bad news ahead... Car has MOT & service in December and insurance in January. So expensive times ahead.

But for the meantime I broke the 6k barrier. And there's a strong chance a slight promotion at work which would effectively give me another yearly increment for the next few years, plus some overtime to help boost the wage-slips.
    :www: Progress Report :www:

  • A little signature update from me. Broken the 50k barrier a month ahead of target.

We are overdue for a little holiday so there won't be much progress over the next month or two.

  • Pay day, I have saved another £500 into my ISA.

Total saving now £6500. Have about £1500 in easy access account for this month's spend and xmas.

Will try not to dip into savings for December and the long January, will have another pay day towards end of December.
    Continue saving

I can't wait to start saving again. I started well but then met and moved in with my girlfriend. I'm very lucky that she doesn't ask me for anything, I just pay for days out, meals etc. I treated myself to a new car as my 12 year old one was starting to pack in.

I've saved £170 this month due to Xmas and clearing £500 off the credit card.

Next pay day I should be able to put away £930 due to selling a few days holidays back to the company. Hopefully we will achieve bonus too so that should be an extra £500-£1500 I can put away. Will be a nice month for saving if that happens. Potentially £2430.

After that it'll be a steady but nice amount of £770-£810 per pay day. I get paid 13 times a year so that's just above £10k a year.

Really looking forward to getting some stability behind me.

  • Hi,

I would like to join please.

Hubby and I are first time buyers with an aim to save a minimum of £20k (£16k deposit and £4k fees). I would like to save more than a 10% deposit but will start with this figure initially.

So far we have £13,045/£20,000 saved but due to a recent change in Hubby's employment, saving the last £7k is going to be more tricky.

Look forward to following your saving journey's :)

Managed to put another £300 into savings as the OH is not spending that much.

We in the lucky position that we don't buy anyone anything for Christmas (due to location of family and age) and i've been given a £100 voucher reward at work which i am going to be using to cover food.

We're gonna try to get £1000 put away each month. This might mean not much of a life but it will get us our house that much quicker.

Glad to see new people joining and everyone putting money aside even when odd bills crop up :)

How realistic is getting a mortgage on say less than £20k pa wage?

Flats where we are looking are £100k-140k, we could poss get an £60k-80k mortgage on a joint income but are looking to save for a big deposit. I would like to get a place by the time I'm 40 so 6 years to save.

On a low income how much could I realistically save in 6 years?
