  • Well a little bit of an update from me: paid today. Regular amount for regular saver waiting to be transfered o0ut in a couple of days, and the little bit that was sat in my account at the end of last month went into savings.

March should be a better month - still waiting on claimed expenses to be repaid by work, and also only one birthday to attend this month, and actually I think it'll be after March's pay hits the account anyway.

Need to start researching ISA's for this year, I've seen one that looks good, but I need to research it more on Martin's main page - seems that it's fixed for 3 years but with 90 (or similar) days notice it can be withdrawn if needs be - but I need to check if this is a clause only relevant to the first 90 odd days or it stands for the full 3 year duration (still need to read the small print). I find the whole thing of comparing accounts very confusing - but it'll be worth it in the end.

Hope everyone has a great March

Skinnyman - What sort of house prices are you looking at? Your savings target is the same as ours

Sorry for the late reply on this, only just returned to the thread. Due to the impending stamp duty charges we're aiming at a maximum of £125k, so the budget is based around that, obviously getting something cheaper will be a bonus, ideally we want to spend around £115k. So with those figures the max deposit we need is £18,750, then £1000 solicitors, £500ish survey, then mortgage fees which we won't know until the time. We've decided to begin actively viewing houses once we hit £20k savings, the idea being we can add a further few thousands onto that by the time we've found somewhere and got to completion.

Another £2500 into savings this month :D

    Congratulations!

The second half will be easier I am sure!

You'll have more interest being added, and I recon the closer we get to the final targets the more motivateion that's there!

    Good luck,

  • Updated my signature. Really happy that I managed to save £400 this month despite our extremely short trip to Malaysia for the week. Filled my ISA too with a month to spare. Yay. The previous months have been really hard.

Just need to decide now whether to replace my stolen phone with the exact same model. Damn thieves and the misery they bring to others.

    Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
    Hi all,
This will be the first time I post with our savings going down rather then up - but on the upside I have a lovely holiday to look forward to and we now have ZERO debts! wooo! We didn't pay the credit card initially as we didn't want to be disheartened by saving hard and seemingly not getting anywhere (I know I'm not being a good money saver, we should have paid the debts off first :S ). However, its all done now so hopefully the only way is up!
Its nice to see others doing well with their savings too (especially after Christmas) and it spurs me on not to be too miserable about all the lovely shoes I am missing out on... ;).

    Happy savings everyone!

Signature updated :) Added another £500 last month which means I have broken through the 20k barrier. I could have added a little bit more but have an expensive few months coming up so want to keep some money in reserve for that.
Getting closer to my target, I should hopefully reach it by the Autumn when I hope house prices have dropped a bit more so I can buy somewhere!
    Saving for a deposit: £20,551 / £25,000 - 82% of the way there...
