We just started saving in september 2011 and we've managed to pay off £6000 worth of debt and saved £10,000 which I think is not bad! It's amayzing how well you can do if you put your mind to it! Just remember if you'r doing it together make sure you don't fall out with eachother. All that deposits useless if you hate eachother :P. Good luck everyone though because it's not easy!0

Main problem this month is going to be, both the wife and I have a week off in Feb I'm trying to resist the temptation to book a week in the sun. It's very tempting for a nice week away, but I should really be saving! HELP................0 -
So glad everyone is doing so well.
Really upset car MOT cost so much......will impact savings this month. xx3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Hi all, we are starting a fresh and decided to jump in and save for a joint mortgage, any recs. on good isa's for savings?Debt free wannabe
Littlewoods - £214.82 (DD set up so 0%)
Very - £100 (0% on BNPL - 1/4/13)
CC - £2600/£3533.53 (0% until 1/6/14)0 -
Won't be much coming in until next week but I transferred an excess £87 into the savings fund. I try and keep £200 'floats' in my account and the joint account and when it goes over (unless direct debits are due) I put the rest into the savings. Brings me to £3121.14
ETA: Just realised next weeks planned payment will bring me up to 25% of my goal...yay!0 -

Hi everyone! Am new to the forum but as my partner and I have just seriously started saving for a house deposit I thought I'd have a read of this thread
What do you think is an achievable goal in a year? I currently have ~£3,500 in savings, OH has more as he's been working for longer but I would like us to be able to contribute a similar amount. My target is £10,000 but not sure if that's too easy or a bit ambitious! I only managed to get £3500 this last year due to paying off credit card and car payments, but hopefully this year will be better
I earn approx £1400 a month (after tax), £500 of which goes on rent and bills. Then I pay £200 a month for my car, and food, petrol etc as well...
Sooo, any tips would be much appreciated! I've only been working for a year out of Uni but would love to buy a house within the next couple of years0 -

£10k seems achievable on your income and expenses. Have you tried to cut down on everything as much as possible (switching bills to cheapest, using cashback websites, taking part in the grocery challenge and walking where you can). To save 6.5k this year, you only need to save £541 a month.
Will 20k between you cover both the deposit and the fees?0 -

I find once you get on these forums you are addicted! I have a savings pot see - 'Sealed pot challenge 5 thread' I am saving in a closed pot as well hoping I will have saved change enough to pay my fees for the solicitor.
I am putting any change in the pot from broken notes, making my own lunches and utilising free entertainment with walks and the beach.
I think a year of sacrifice will pay off for me. Good luck xx :T3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:
