Got a little lost with my savings this month. I've changed current accounts (sort of) to get a £200 bonus so money is still moving out of two accounts. To ensure I don't fall into any overdrafts I've decided to only put £250 away this month.
Still, it means I've saved £4580 so far this financial year, three more months to fill my cash-ISA for the first time ever. Three months to save £760. I reckon I can do it!
Anyway, total for deposit now stands at £13,250Saving for a deposit £16,000 / £20,000 - 80%0 -
I've just paid £633 on a holiday, so savings gone slightly below the £50k mark, however been offered a new job in Birmingham. Just negotiating the salary, and its all done and dusted.
I can't believe how cheap it is for a 2 bed flat right in the centre of Birmingham, makes London look like silly prices"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0 -

Well done! If you don't mind me asking how did you get £200 for moving accounts?! Best I've seen is £100.Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Yay, savings update. Added £1000 to the pot.
Now at 55.19% of target. My payrise from work hasn't been processed properly so hopefully January will be much more fruitful (if most of my backdated pay isnt taken in pension/NI/tax etc).
I am swaying more to lowering my target a little and just getting a 10% deposit and buying. Living with parents sucks and it's taking its toll big time.DFD: 23/12/20100 -
Well.... My trepidation over my car service & MOT was proved to be on the money in that the car failed and I had to shovel money from my savings.
I "should" be able to put away £700 from this months wages, but that's effectively £300 after the £400 that went on the car is taken into account. It basically means that I won't reach my end of year target of £4K. January won't be much better because I then have to renew my damned car insurance. But less money will be going on the car from April onwards I promise because the finance loan will be cleared.
Edit: I'm provisionally putting £750 away from December's pay packet.:www: Progress Report :www:

I am starting the saving for a mortgage journey....sadly my dad passed away in 2010 and left a small private pension which is my start off.
I work full time for the Local Authority and earn around 17k but this is due to rise up to 19k in next year. I have child support from Tobys father which is quite significant which brings my income up to £1850 a month ish.
I am looking for a small home for Toby and I, but unfortunatly I have had some 'dodgy' credit in the past and I think I am going to have to have a serious deposit to have any chance. Only bonus is that I have paid it off myself but I do have defaults. I am sure some should drop off soon though.....
I am looking to save £20,000 this year while saying with my Mum. Luckily she lives alone and has three bedrooms so Toby and I will have a room each and will be utilising free activities to save money. I am lucky that my Mum is happy to not charge me ANY rent to help me get out quicker! I am so greatful.
I don't know where I will look for a mortgage but no point even looking with out saving the money first.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

samtoby you seem well on your way, lucky you have such a lovely mum; I'm sure you'll save up in no time. We're also trying to keep to free activities and rather than a bought holiday we're going to drive out to one of my mum's holiday homes in France/Portugal (last year we spent loads on our wedding and holiday so this year is time to be frugal!) Anyway, well done :T
Tara 54k is very impressive! You only missed by a smidgen...I'd still consider it a goal achieved!0 -
we also do free activities or very cheap ones, it's harder at this time of the year as it's abit cold for the park/petting farm but theres alot of santa activitie days, if you live near an ikea they do a free soft play area for over 5's while you shop, saying that my kids love ikea and have more fun looking in the wee houses, climbing on the beds and trying out every sofa.....little amuses the innocent
if you go during the week you can get a cooked breakfast for £1 so could be a nice treat for you aswellDEC GC £463.67/£450
