Sometimes a couple of hours on these forums could help motivate you. Or search for properties online and see whats about.

I have to totally agree with you rictus123, without having this forum to motivate me to save, I would be going back to my old ways of thoughtless spending
Must save to live, not just live to save!!!

I've been saving for about 6 years, but really seriously for about 4.5 years, MSE helped focus my mind lol!

Oh my goodness thats amazing!! Congrats!! I really wish I'd had the sense when I was younger and started working to save, I'd have moved out by now if that was the case.

Im not planning on properly house hunting til mid next year but i think I've become a woman obsessed! I have 3 different house hunting apps on my phone and constantly checking for new properties. I need to stop it really because I do find a few amazing properties but know I wont have the full deposit next year :(:(:(

Hi all, good to see everyone doing so great! Well, I have done 3 days overtime so far but won't get paid for them til 23rd December. I also decided to give myself a bit more of an emergency buffer than I had allowed thus far (£100) so I won't be putting anything extra into the savings until I have a margin for emergencies. Still £220 SO went in this month leaving me at:
£3355 of my £3500 target by Christmas. So I didn't quite hit it but am still very happy with what I've done.

Have an awesome Christmas and New Year everyone and I'll see you on the other side :)
  • Hi all thought I would update doing well with my savings, thinking of picking up a couple of bank shifts somewhere because I am off every other weekend. I want my own house so much now :D willing to work my !!! off for it.
  • hi there, I've just found this thread and its given me loads of motivation to begin a pretty daunting task. after being away travelling for the last year I have come home and decided the time is right (I'm 25) to start saving to buy a flat. I have made a monthly budget in which I believe I can save £400 per month. I also have just taken a job where I will be getting monthly bonuses so hopefully can add another £500 per month on top of that. My target is to have my full target of 15k saved by NYE 2012. Luckily, I live in Scotland so a 1 bed apartment currently is around 85 - 90k meaning I don't need a crazy amount of money. It's still a daunting process though. The only friends I know who have their own homes were helped a lot by parents or saved with two incomes. I'm single so will be doing this all on my own! I currently have £550 saved so I have a long way to go but hopefully this thread will keep me motivated during 2012!!!! Good Luck to everyone else who is struggling to save!!!:)

£107 in our savings this morning, we've been talking about houses this past few days and decided a house is the way to go as we will lose out in the longrun when universal credits come in because we get some tax credits now if we bought a small town house near the kids school we would save money on heat and desil and any interest we would have to pay rather than savings would balance out with what we would pay in rent, if we overpay at the rate were saving at the moment we could pay it off in around 6 years (thats using calculators in here so not exact ofcourse) at which point we could think about building by possibly releasing money from the house or trying to sell depending on the market (i think remortgaging would be the way to go as then we wouldn't be in a mobile home but oh doesn't so we'll see how thing are at the time) anyway were aiming to have enough to start looking this time next year

Welcome! :A Just my 2p worth - try to buy a 2 bed flat rather than a 1 bed if you can. Here's why! Firstly, 1 bed flats are always the hardest to sell except at the very height of a boom. Secondly, with an extra bedroom there is always the option to rent a room if things get tight. Thirdly, consider what would happen if you were to meet someone and wanted to start a family and couldn't sell your 1 bed flat... ;)

quintwins - is the full stop button not working on your keyboard? LOL!

I am getting paid early for December - next week sometime - so will do a final 2011 tally and total then. So excited!!!

Had to raid my house deposit fund to pay for a brand new clutch for my car and also to pay last months rent. It is now more like £7k now at the moment.
