We've been saving for only a year, but the year before we cleared our debts. We've also moved back in with parents and really restricted our recreational spending, which has made a huge difference in the amount we can put away each month. Tbh I find saving very difficult and I am often quite envious of friends who are able to spend much more freely then we are.. but then its about deciding what is a priority for you, and I have always dreamed of owning my own home.

For this months update - we only put £1k into savings this month as we wanted to let off a bit of saving steam for Christmas! :) but we've hit our 50% target with one pay day to spare so we are very pleased and we've decided we deserve a treat!

    Have a lovely Christmas all!

Just a quick update as I have not bothered to update my sig for a while and then got locked out of my online banking site but have just been let back in so it was a pleasant surprise to find I have broken the £9k mark and 60% of my target :T :T :T

(I could have worked this out by adding what I'd put in to my old balance but it was kind of nice to find out after a huge chunk had gone in!)

Haven't updated for a while either - new total is currently £66453.97 which is 91.66% of the way there

but doesn't look like I'll be reaching my 100% target as we exchanged on a house the friday just gone!! :j Wohoo! Move in, in 2 weeks, so looks like I'll be saving for carpets etc instead, followed by being mortgage free!

Good luck to everyone who is still saving - took DH and I 10years to get our house - we're proof you get there in the end! :T

:j Well done Jackies, that is fantastic news :j

 10 years???!!! Actually I think it may take me even longer to get my deposit. I'm in the South East and prices are stupidly high here so the deposit needs to be just as silly.

I really hope everything goes well for you and you have many happy years in your new home. Hopefully we'll all see you on the MFW board very soon :)

Just out of interest, how long has everyone been saving for? Some of your saving totals are unreal and I just wondered how long you had been saving for to get to that amount?
I've been saving for 2 years and have just under £14k. Im hoping to step up my saving and put away £1k a month next year as I've set a date to see a mortgage advisor in June and want to go prepared with a 15% deposit.

Its bloody hard work this saving malarky.

Also decided no more holidays as thats were a lot of my income goes lol

I've been saving for about 6 years, but really seriously for about 4.5 years, MSE helped focus my mind lol!
