  • Hi everyone, your thread is very inspiring.

I was wondering though, how much of your disposable income do you save each month? I have been saving approx 2/3rds of mine, but am wondering if it should be more?

You need to live and by saving more than 3/4 your restricting yourself too much, so much so you'll probably have a blowout and fall off the wagon. Im saving all of my disposable and making extra cash each month for things I want eg, clothes, dates ect but that's my incentive to clear the house of carp before the big move! :D

    Hello everyone :j.

Me and my boyfriend are hoping to buy a property March/April time next year. The area we want to live in is quite expensive so we'll probably buy a 2 bed apartment to start off with, exciting times!!

At the moment we have quite a reasonable amount of savings, but aiming to save as much as we can until the date next year as we'll be starting off from scratch.

    Best of luck everyone :).

well i'm out of heating oil so yet another month with next to nothing in the pot and the pots empty :( i'm gonna pull in all spending in the hope of putting something in at the end of the month, fingers crossed

Depends on what part of NI though - I'm getting a 3 bed semi for around £120k, which is quite a good deal for my area.

PS - how much is heating oil now? Trying to work out the moving in budget and have no idea on oil costs

Houses I am looking at are currently up at £89,000

Btw, do you mean heating oil which heats your home, or car oil :S

were looking at houses in the same range and it will get u a 3 bed semi near decent schools here :)

we'll be fine we have lots of food and on the plus side we'll have heat if we need it (which is very likely) it's really annoying when u run out of oil because u don't know your out til you wanna use it :(

lazer 900litres is around £530 (it will prob be abit more in belfast area) for a 3bed semi i'd say 400litres will see you threw winter we have a huge bungalow but it holds heat well and that will do us til this time next year :)

*i will get there one day* *i will get there one day* *i will get there one day*

.....and it will be worth it in the end :D

  • Hi everyone - have been following the thread occasionally and decided it is time to join!

Me and my fiance are saving for our first house together looking to buy at the end of next year likely.

I am entering my last year of uni and have a grad job lined up for me finishing with a very generous salary - so just looking to get a good deposit to match now! We have some savings already put away and hopefully this thread will give us that extra inspiration!

Looking at houses...first house should be around 130k for somewhere with a decent enough garden so development potential. Looking at 3 simple extensions - conservatory, garage and porch. May save up additional funds for these before i move out so hopefully after a 2 year fix there will be a massive difference between value and mortgage outstanding as also hope to overpay as much as im allowed.

Looking at summer 2012 for moving out yet iv got a feeling once at that stage il still think im almost 21 so no hurry and get together a bigger emergency fund.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
  • Have updated my totals.

Based on my salary using the calculators I will likely get a mortgage for around 110-120. Houses aren't too expensive where I live in Scotland in comparison to many of you guys, so likely to get a nice 2 or 3 bedroom house for this.

Looking to save around £10k ourselves which will be topped up from some help from family (very lucky we know).

  • I finally get to do an update, yey!

Came into a bit of money recently through a PPI refund and added £1k from this months wages as soon as it entered my bank.

My current deposit has almost doubled in size this month. Taking me to 42.5% of my target total.

I have spent a fair bit of money over the past few months so this little windfall is very welcome. Although it has brought with it a lot of questions. :o:cool: I am now thinking do I keep to my original target or buy a cheaper flat to get out or my parents quicker?

My original target would see me spending another year to year and a half here. I guess I need to see how i handle the run up to christmas. It is only 13 weeks away tomorrow after all. :rotfl:

off to update my sig now, have been waiting such a long time for this update, I'm getting quite giddy about it. :T
