London is soo extortionate ! must be very dishearting for anyone saving to buy in London0

£240k I mentioned, however I'll most likely be paying £200k for a 2 bed flat in a really nice area of NW london but nearer the M25.
There are cheaper properties but they are either in a bad area with council flats, Old flats, bad location or above shops.
I love my local area, and friends local, with low crime but is a 1.25hrs commute :O
Even though I get mostly free travel on most trains, I'd rather live closer to where I've grown up rather than move to somewhere like Bedford...."No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0 -
Hi...this will be my last post on this board. I know I haven't been very regular for a while but I just wanted to pop back and let everyone know that we have finally got to the end of our journey and have exchanged contracts on a lovely house. We expect to complete on Friday and move in on Saturday. We ended up giving a just over 20% deposit. Just wanted to report our success to maybe help inspire people who are struggling with the savings slog - I know there were times when I nearly gave up!
Congrats! :jWeight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Guys and Gals, Im on board!
Im 25, single, have 2 children and Im a work at home mumI rent a £800 large 3 bed house on my own, have no debts, own a car, own my own business and I foster babies. I can save roughly £1k a month from my income and any extras I want throughout the month will be bought via money made doing the £10 a day challenge. I just started saving for a new car but after reading this thread I've scrapped that idea and my BMW series 1 will have to wait!
I have no idea of the amount I would need, 3 bed houses in this area(Devon) are around min £130k+ and that's with a lot of work doing to it. I saw a lovely house in a street I have always loved with 4 beds, garage, workshop, garden, parking for £145k,,,,but my god it needed work! So heres to saving the first £1000 of many....2025 Mortgage start £378K 2025 Overpayment £103 Savings Challenge 2025 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
Hi nat21luv, welcome to the mad house :rotfl:
£130K seems very cheap, I wish the properties around my area were that cheap. We need a 4 bed and prices are at least £260K+ . That is in the South East though and everyone know prices are over-inflated.
Good luck with your savings :T
Mine have just taken a £1590 dent as my DS1 came back from Uni (only did one year) and got himself into debt. He had the uni on his back for the money so I paid it off and he now has to give me £20 per week until it's all paid...

Well I'm hoping to be buying a home in a few years and I'm saving like mad, but 2 bedrooms in London for less than £300,000? I doubt it would be a fantastic area, or even a house for that matter. Most likely a ex local authority estate flat.
I live quite close to the centre near Tower Bridge and my flat is about £300,000 and thats a one bedroom with tiny balcony.
I work in the City and Id not want to live too far out of that so I can walk to work (much cheaper than train tickets) houses/flats for less than £300,000 are likely to be in areas like Elephant & Castle, White Chapel and then heading more east and south.
Not the kind of areas you'd want to stagger home at 11pm drunk, from after work drinks
I look on Rightmove all the time and seeing what I will have to settle for to live in a nice area here is depressing, the rest of the country looks like Aldi by comparision (full of bargains)
Actually South East have some lovely areas but then these area are generl expensive too.0 -

awww don't worry twin you will do it. I have to be frugal some months in order to save and it is PAINFUL.
£130k here would get you a 3 bedroom semi-detatched or detached house with a relativley big garden.
Houses I am looking at are currently up at £89,000
Btw, do you mean heating oil which heats your home, or car oil :S0 -
We are planning to move down to near/in Worthing. Ideally we would like a house but a flat (2 beds) would do. We want pets so can't be above shops like we are now.
2 bed flats are £80k - £200k whereas houses start around £120K. We are looking to move there in 5 years and rent for another 5 years, should we be saving for a deposit or for the whole price of the property? We'd probably only manage to save the deposit.0
