    Pay Day update..

It's not a good one I'm afraid I knew it wouldn't be, Darn car Ins, Parking Ticket, Holiday, new Tyres, mates wedding and what ever else is going to pop up!

A friend made me book a holiday to Turkey today, a week self catering for 203.50 each in Oct. It's not that bad I did save £60 by not booking the extra luggage allowance or the inflight meals, They wanted £30 for a bit of food, going to beat the system and take a pack lunch. I've not had a holiday since last July and I hate taking weeks of work to sit around doing nothing also realised today I have 3 weeks of hol to use by Xmas!

So yes all I've managed to save this mth is 255, feel rather embarrassed typing that. The new total is £6,640, this being due to taking out £75 at the end of last mth to pay for my parents 40 wedding Ann meal, flowers and present!

Going to try and get it up to 700 by end of mth by er selling things and collecting some money owed to me and er any others Ideas I find on here :)

Roll on Oct a bit of sun sea and sand and better savings

All that and you still managed to put away £255? That's rather positive in my view.

OMG that sounds exactly like my hubby's friend! For the last seven years he has worked full time, living with his girlfriend & child, while she claims to be living alone & getting her full rent paid with benefits. He has had loads of finance agreements over the years for flash cars & lives of credit cards whilst making out to everyone he is loaded! The other week he said to my hubby 'oh you still got that car, thought you would have got something better by now' to which my OH said no we're saving for a deposit. He then replied 'ha! good luck with that, there no chance with house prices at moment'! What the hell does he know!! He owes about 25k out in debts for cars he has had, so probably no chance for him! I will show him though.

Sounds like same person lol! Yes he has two cars both been turned into boy racer things yet his 52! Also everytime I change car he comment's on how crap it is and to clean it! and anything else I do I get the why you wanna do that, go there etc etc. He has four kids from one marriage then married my friend whos 34 and had one kid with her, she has 3 from previous hubby! She's never done a days work and I'm looking forward to the youngest starting school to see what happens, She's had the op so unable to have anymore, otherwised I'd hate to think how many kids she'd have to use as an excuse not to work!

Do feel for the kids though, they never do anything in the holidays. I got the "family" one of those saving jars you break open when full and told her to put £2 in and she'll have 1K to go on holiday next yr, so far only the £2 I put in as a starter is in there! He wasn't impresed with my suggestion of this either :(

    Hi Everyone,

Have been reading the forum all day and have been inspired to start saving for my own house.

My situation is as follows, Am 22 year old girl, rent my own place from a housing association at the moment. Rent isn't too bad tbh. Work full time plus at least 30+ hours OT every month since May, just started a new position with the same company so i earn comission aswell.. I pay all the bills myself...no benefits or WTC and have just brought a car on HP - a treat for working all the OT! I know all those MSE out there are saying no no no but it is 0% for 5 years and my aim is to pay it off in 2.5. Plus had to get rid of my current car as it is a real drain on my funds.

Have been hoping to save for a house but as well as the car i am also paying of a loan. Have about £1,036(at a guess) left to pay and it ends in May 2012. Am being charged interest on that atm so am aiming to stick most of my commision on this next payday to get it down.

I have a boyfriend but he is not the most reliable so am saving on my own in secret, i know that sounds bad but...circumstances and all that. I am really inspired by some of your posts and would like to say well done to all of you past and present. I think its a real achievement to save soooo much money. Compared to the rest of you i only want to save about £10K. I have my first £2 towards it LOL.

    All helpfuls suggestions welcome...

    thanks

Hello lovelies! I am going to be joining this thread very soon (with a countUP signature and everything), since my DH landed a 2nd job yesterday which will start our house deposit fund. We'll be starting from absolute scratch, so I've calculated a rough 4 yearish journey ahead, but we can't wait to start looking for our family home by the sea :D.

Anyway, REALLY nebby question that DH & I were debating about last night...does anyone know what your typical fees will be? Legal/conveyancing + searches + Land Registry, etc. Obviously there's the mortgage arrangement fee as well, but it's hard to pin semi-recent figures using Google as a lot of articles on it are a bit old...
top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

would like to win a holiday, please!!

He is the exact same! He is 31 but thats still too old to be a boyracer! He pulls everything down of everyone elses and exaggerates the value of everything of his, like his cars & wages.

They drive me mad, the girlfriend works a few hours in a chippy, cash in hand but drives a 2 year old convertible! The live the high life while scamming benefits and running up credit cards!

They never take their child anywhere either, they have only been on holiday once in 7 years and that is only because his mum was getting married.

Well done on starting to save! :T

My target is also £10k. My hubby is useless at saving too, so I just take the money out of his account on payday before he can spend it :rotfl:

I am hoping to reach my target in less than 12 months, so until that time I am trying not to buy anything non-essential! I only go out once a month, do not buy clothes anymore (much!), I have started going to Aldi for the majority of my food, stopping smoking & taking my own lunch to work. I also sell on ebay, though i have cleared out most of my house now lol.
  • You’re all so inspiring, and I’d love to join in! I clawed my way out of long-term debt nearly 2 years ago, inspired by this website. I’m in a long-term rental situation but that might be changing (circs beyond my control), and this prospect has turned me into an obsessive budgeter/saver! I’ve started putting money aside every month for things like Xmas and bills (oh, and tax LOL – I’m self-employed), so now I want to throw whatever else I can at a house deposit fund. I have a small number of long-standing clients and can normally expect to receive my main income payment mid-month and another, much smaller payment (different client) at the end of the month. I’m still pondering the best thing to do but am thinking about seeing if I can put the whole smaller payment (less tax) into the house deposit fund, ideally in addition to whatever I can manage from the mid-month payment. This might not be possible every month, depending on the actual sums involved, but boy am I motivated to try! I suppose I could say I’ve already got about £6,500 in my deposit fund (= my ISA, which has a bit more capacity for this financial year; will then start another separate savings account ). Will probably wait till the end of the month to update as that’ll give me a clearer picture of what I’ve actually earnt and can afford to put aside.
