Hi all,
Guess I'll throw my hat into the ring as well, now I've convinced myself that I am actually saving for a deposit!
I'm currently renting (as a lodger) in central London from a friend, and feel that I want to build up enough funds to, in a few years, put down a deposit on some type of property.
Unfortunately, being in central London, this means I'm either going to be saving until I'm old and grey, or 'some type of property' will end up being a storage locker and a sleeping bag! But oh well, I can dream!
Current savings are around £9k. Flat prices for a two-bedroom, which I'd ideally like, are around £250k-£350k. At 90% LTV, I'd need a deposit of £25k-£35k. At a more comfortable 80% LTV, I'm looking at £50k-£75k.
So, I may need to downgrade my ideals. But until then, I'm planning to put away (hopefully) £500 a month, which should get me to £25k within 32 months, ish. Then time to take stock again. Hopefully I can speed this along by being frugal and putting extra money aside where possible!Anything I post here is purely my own personal opinion. As such it may be wrong, poorly worded or written very tongue-in-cheek. Please therefore treat it the same way you should treat anything you read on the internet from an unknown person - with a healthy pinch of salt and scepticism!0 -
Think I'll start,
We've just paid and closed our last visa which is a very nice feeling. Now the next long hall begins, me and my girlfriend would like a new house, currently live in a maisonette flat but would like to move to a house with a garden and a back door. I'm almost 27, oh is 26 and we've got a 6 month old child and a cat. Currently we have 800 a month after every possible bill or expense so hopefully we can save at least 700 a month depending on any extra things that come up like friends weddings or treats. Hoping for about £20000 deposit and hopefully buy around the £150000 ish around Chorley Lancashire.0 -
Updated signature - I know its small but another £10 added - lottery win!
Still hoping to break the £17k this month pre payday (Have a festival this weekend)
I have built up a £142cc spend this month - although am owed £60 for this, £50 is petrol, which I always pay a month in arrears so in reality it is only £32 cc spends! I'm getting much more stringent
Want to clear the £32 from this months remaining money (£200 - and still have a week to go)Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -

Welcome to the boards.
Well done on paying off your cc's.
And good for you moving straight from debt repayment to savings - if you've been used to paying extra out (to pay debt) it'll be much easier to save - you'll not miss what you never got used to spending.
Good luck in saving for your deposit

Well done for paying the holiday off in one go. And saving all that in 1 year is excellent. It would appear that you know how to money save already as you have done a great job. Keep at it.
The side business, share any details, selling products?
We were buying things in sales and re-selling when the prices rose again. I was buying at 50-75% of RRP and selling at 100% RRP come Christmas. Some things went for 125% of RRP if put on auction.
This scheme worked well however its ties all your money up, you need a large room or garage to run it from (our space has gone), you need to know the market place, you need to spot trends, you need to gamble on some items and be prepared to take a hit and finally you are very busy at Christmas and dead the rest of the year.
The best deal i did was buying 50 Ant farms for £3 each and sold them for RRP of £20 each 11 months later. I knew to buy them as my brother brought one the christmas before for £25 so i knew they would sell.
My primary product isn't selling well at the moment so i'm taking a break till the nearer christmas0 -
