The 'We're saving for a deposit' thread

Hello may I join this thread please? My husband and I opened a brand new shiny savings account yest and deposited our first one hundred pounds into it-I am so excited!
We are looking to save up a deposit of 20,000,which is going to be very difficult as our joint household income after tax is just under 2 grand a month. After rent and bills and grocery shopping,we have approx 453.00 left over to cover the month. This also has to cover birthdays, events, christmas, clothes for the kids etc.So money is very tight but I am sure that if we put our minds to it then it can be achieved!Plus I figured it would be better to save something than to have nothing at all,'cos it's going to be a while before we're ready for a morgage.
I am in awe of some of the high amounts I see some people on this thread put away each month,I've come to the conclusion it's either 'cos your v well paid or your v v frugal!lol:rotfl:
Anyway,hello!Progress will be v slow-but I'm here.:j:female:Our 2 gorgeous little girls born 2006 and 2010

Updating spreadsheet day today, YAY!
I managed £1000 this month. Well for now.... No doubt something will crop up to deplete this somewhat. At the moment this puts my deposit date at around October 2012. A long way off
It'd be nice if there was a big housing price crash so that we all needed less of a deposit for lower LTV and therefore could get things together quicker. But unrealistic house prices are keeping this from happening.
Today must be relisting day on rightmove. An unbelievable amount of houses around me are new on the market apparently. Although I know they have been on the market for a long time. Seems like either the buyers or the estate agents are hoping to fool people into thinking they are new when they should just give it up and reduce the price to reflect the average wage of people in the local area. Right now it appears that they believe people round here earn London wages.DFD: 23/12/20100 -

Thursdays does seem to be a busy day for the Estate Agents as I too have noticed a high number of homes new to the market too.
One house I had my eye on was on for £123k but has been 'relisted' on Rightmove @ £119k. I think the vendors are starting to smell the coffee but for what it is, I still think that the house is too much.:(Generation Rent0 -
Non of these houses have changed price though. The few houses that have been reduced are not new listings on property bee, the actual reductions are shown. But a significant number of the houses listed within the last 3 days are new listings but with the old price still attached. Sure there are a lot of people out there who won't keep an eye on their local property market in the year(s) running up to purchasing, but not everyone is like that. I do find it disappointing that they relist them and spoil my fun of knowing the full details by making property bee delete the past changes. I just hope they get the message and reduce them so the market can fall to a level more appropriate for the area (and in essence a level that suits me).
I'd quite like the average 3 bedroom semi to be affordable on the average wage for the area with a sensible multiple used for a mortgage, with the average earner also able to afford a life. Houses are far too highly overpriced, they should never be so expensive that people can't afford to leave them for a bit of a social life.DFD: 23/12/20100 -

Its near the end of the month, and I haven't actually touched much of the deposit account - managed to only take £8 from it and i'm hoping to put i back in before payday!
I have however used all my stoozing saving of £250 this month, but i'm not overly bothered by this!
I have £305 left in a current account and £20 in my purse so that should see me through to wednesday and anything left will be transferred straight to savings!
I have a hen weekend costing €130 plus petrol (although i'm hoping my passenger give me generous petrol money) and spends to go to and a £65 electric bill to pay, so its still going to be tight with the £300!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
Well I managed to save £770 this month
Am hoping to save abit of but have a few expensive weekends coming up so have left some extra in my bank account to cover those so will save whatever is left once those weekends have passed, so hopefully there will be abit more to come
Can't update our total yet as DH still hasn't been paid so not sure how much money he'll be putting in (I usually tally our total on thelast day of the month to see its progressing)Sealed Pot Challenge (1031) 2012 = 148.17

Bad news for me this month. I haven't managed to save anything, quite the contrary infact, I made a mistake calculating my budget & outgoings last month. (holiday, please no people telling me I don't deserve to have holidays, or a life if I'm saving  ). I ended up being £120 overdrawn.
It wouldn't have been so bad... but I have two birthdays that I really can't ignore, I promised my sisters's partner that I'd take him karting as his present, and it's also my mum's birthday towards the end of July, which I am determined to be prepared for because last year I kind of "forgot" about it until a week afterwards.:embarasse
So instead of saving anything this month, I've actually ended up taking the £100 I put away last month back out.
Still... at least I still have something in there... and I didn't really expect to have a penny until September at least, when I move back in with Mum. Money is getting even tighter than expected now... largely due to my employer cutting out overtime, and doing their best to reduce our incomes in any other way they can get away with.:(:www: Progress Report :www:
