Well done to everyone in all your efforts! You have kept me motivated. I finally worked out how the thread tools work ( I know I'm a bit slow) and kept up to date with the thread and I have seen people's progress :T. It's inspiring.Quick update from me. I found the passbook to a (very) old building society account with a little bit of cash in it. Checked and it was earning something like 0.0001%
Went to the building soc. today and closed the account, putting the £190 straight into the ISA.
Got £10 Co-op dividends this week so put that in too.
Along with the standing order for £220 a month this means that my deposit fund now stands at
£746.48
Not bad for an account that's only been open 2.5 weeks
I think I might have given the OH the bug now, since I proudly told him what my total is now he responded with 'Right I'm gonna go sort my ISA out, you're not gonna beat me!'
Nice going everyone, keep it up!
£746.48 / £2k = 37.3% of target by December 2011
This made me laugh!:rotfl:
I am in the same position as your OH. I found out that my OH had saved more than me! I swore to myself that I am going to save harder to atleast catch up to him!!!! He is better disciplined with money than me so he does try to keep me line!:A
I guess it can only be a good thing that our deposit pot is looking healthier now but I want to have contributed a big chunk to that pot especially now that I have had a salary increase.0 -
This post is really inspirational! Its so good to see loads of people joining in with the savings challenge!
Just like you Rahven and nakiwala123, me and my OH have a competition each month to see who can save the most. The loser has to give the other one a massage :P
I have a higher paid job, but she doesnt have the expense of running a car. It means that i lose when things like maintenance or insurance come up but most of the time i can squeeze a win!
Update for this month.
I managed to save £517 (car insurance) and OH managed to save a massive £1237! Not sure how she managed it but it goes to adding £1754 to our total!
We now have 44,598 which is 89% of our 50k target!
We have found a new house in a new development that we like the looks of. Its not ready until early next year though so this gives us time to save a little bit more
Keep saving people!Mortgage Free 22/03/17

Bloody fab idea, wish I could make mine save this way...will have to be more cunning I think!!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Yay! Another £230 to the pot, equating to £7,602! Thing is, I'm not sure what my target is. I wouldn't want to pay more that £100,000 for a modest freehold property, to be honest.
If houses remain out of reach then this will become my 'Nissan 370Z account', with a target of £30,000. :cool:Generation Rent0 -

Another update from me - transferred my old ISA into the new one. Setting aside the remainder of the wedding budget this has added £508.10 to the deposit fund
So the house deposit fund is now at £1254.58, into the first thousand, yay!
£1254.58/£2k = 62.7% (first target)0 -
There is free listing on ebay this coming weekend!
Stupotstu
Oh yes I got an email about that today! I listed 10 items last time, 4 sold, so I will relist the remaining 6 once again this weekend. One day they will sell!
I have an extra item this week though, a £5 coin from the 1999/2000 /millenium. Many people have been selling them buy it now for £45 so i think i will start the auction at 35 and see how we go.Mortgage Free 22/03/17
