I'm quite happy renting at the moment but in the meantime I have £7,122 saved up for my pad.
I want to try and buy a place outright if I can as I hated having a mortgage on my last place.Generation Rent0 -

Not many people can buy a house outright at 40 though! 90k is a huge deposit
Rent v.cheap though; long may it continue!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Currently beating my target by miles:D
Now have £36,300 in pot:j
Nearly done with finishing final year of university and start new job in a month:D
Hoping to spend 3 months working and continue living with rents(If I can surive the nagging:mad:) before I start house hunting so after september after friends holiday:)
So many questions I need to find answers!
-First Where to live in London, hoping to start north/west.
-Do I rent for 6 months to get used to living away then look to buy a place?
-Do I go alone or share a mortage/rent with mates?
A bonus for myself is that my new job offers benefit of cheap underground travel and free travel on First Capital Connect.
Been thinking of Bedford, anyone got an opinions/ live there? Very cheap houses compared to my local area and around 1hr 10 to work place and 1hr drive to rents(Living with cheaper mortage, i could afford a car for once):) Train travel would be free from Bedford and I don't mine the longer travel to get a nicer/cheaper place:D"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0 -
If you don't know where you want to settle def worth renting to scope out the area first. When you get a mortgage you can always rent out a room to help with payments as well
I think Bedford to London daily commute would be a pain though!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
-First Where to live in London, hoping to start north/west. no idea where to suggest, sorry
-Do I rent for 6 months to get used to living away then look to buy a place? if you don't know the area/are moving to a new area then I would recommend this, if you don't like it, the commute is worse than you thought, you find somewhere you prefer then you just move
-Do I go alone or share a mortage/rent with mates? Do you know anyone in a similar position to that you know that you can trust 100% and could live with for the forseeable? If not then you can always rent a room out to help you out financially (with the added bonus of asking the other person to move on if not a compatible house sharer)
A bonus for myself is that my new job offers benefit of cheap underground travel and free travel on First Capital Connect. that's a great bonus!

how long would it actually take you door to door? not just train station to train station - worth considering especially if it's going to add a further 30-45 mins on your commute twice a day - you want to be able to enjoy your new home, and enjoy life, not be exhausted from an 9 or 10 hour day in the office plus a 3 hour commute.
