Where can you buy a 90k house? A one bed apartment in my area would cost that much.
I think i need to move!
There's a 3 bed 8 year old house I've got my eye on the now that's on at offers in the region of £94,000 and that's just 1 of many in that kind of price bracket :cool:Deposit Saved -> £25000 Target -> £25000100% of the way there :jTarget Date -> 31/12/20110 -

I am new to this thread but started saving back in January. I'm 23 and I live at home so don't have many overheads lol. My target is £30k but I have no idea whether this will be big enough as I am single. I reckon fees for a £100k place will be circa £4000. I just wondered if anyone else was saving up for a place and if they were single as most people posting appear to be in relationships? This month my savings reached £15800 so just broke the 50% barrier which felt good as now it feels like I am going downwards rather than upwards towards my target if that makes sense lol.
Thanks
Jake
I think (hope) you're vastly overestimating the fees for a £100k property. The highest mortgage fee I've seen has been £1k and solicitor fees around where I am for a property of that price is roughly £600-£700.Deposit Saved -> £25000 Target -> £25000100% of the way there :jTarget Date -> 31/12/20110 -

Yes it was an estimate on what I've read on here and did include all fees inc solicitors etc. Please ignore me as I have not really looked into the fees, not until I reach my target anyway.0 -
Hi everyone
I have been following this thread since it started way back in 2008 - I joined as a saver in 2009 and ended up using my savings to buy a new car in March this year. Since then I have not saved very much at all towards my house savingsand have really neglected this thread
My own stupid fault for taking a Credit Card and spending on it
However my Pink Friend (The CC!!) is now paid off :j
SO now I am back on the house savings trail good and proper for 2011 and no doubt all of 2012 as well.
My intentions for 2011 are to save the following:
£400 per month
~ £300 in a Santander 1st Homebuyer account at 5%
~ £100 probably in an ISA
~ topping this up with ALL money I make from Babysitting.
I lost my regular extra £25 a week money in the summer when the little girl I took to Nursery moved to a new Nursery. However another little girl I used to look after on a regular basis is at school but I will be picking her up one day a week so that will bring in an extra £40 per month and this will go into savings as well.
As much as I love my parents and they have been wonderful - I need to find a place to call my own and I just need to knuckle down and save for it!

I'm a Qualified Nursery Nurse, I work for a babysitting agency part time as well as my full time job in a Nursery - money is minimum wage but is cash in hand for sitting watching TV most of the time! Most of the parents end up rounding the money up to the nearest £5 which is nice, I only even expect what I am told from the agency I will be getting for the night.
It is easy most of the time and I enjoy it as I can pick and choose when I babysit.

Ah I see, not like anyone can do it nowadays. I don't think a guy babysitter would ever work either lol unless qualifed/ family friend of course. Even though it's minimum wage its better than nothing, I am considering getting a part time job to speed up my saving but not to sure where to look.0 -

The agency I work for only takes on Qualified Childcarers and everyone is fully Police checked / disclosed.
Have you tried supermarkets - especially Tesco/Asda 24 hour stores - my local Mr T's is always advertising for staff and look as though the hours are pretty flexible? Either that or shop work at the weekends or advertise your services for something you are good at in a local shop or on place like gumtree?

Yes for the new year I really want to try something. I work 8-4 weekdays so have plenty of time for a part time job. Thanks for the advice.0

hi myself and my OH are currently saving up for our first home. We have had a mortgage accepted in theory, which very luckily is a 10% deposit one. Hopefully by the end of January we should have hit our final figure that we were after, but only after the pair of us inherited some money. I would have liked to have saved some more to get a higher deposit and therefore lower monthly payments but we have found the house we would love.
Currently have
£6200 savings accounts
£3800 another account
£2000 inheritance (stipulated that it has to be spent on a house)
Total £12000
with
£6000 inheritance at the end of January
So that should make £18000 for deposit and extra costs (solicitors fees etc). Plus my FIL wants to help us out by giving us enough money to do the house up (early inheritance to the OH).
Just have to get the house for a reasonable price now.Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0
