    Major blow here- OH and I split in July. He had saved pretty much nothing, so it hasn't affected my deposit saving. However, it now unfortunately means that I have to pay for rent, council tax, bills etc on my own. So fixed outgoings have gone up by £300 per month (which means £300 less for saving).

    Still have the regular savers going and now up to..... £39700. Just wish I had £300 extra this month to make that lovely round figure! Will have to wait til next month due to car MOT etc. :(

    Hey birduk, sorry to hear about you and your OH. Glad to hear that you are staying positive about your goals though. I too hope to break the £40,000 barrier at the end of this month so let's go for it! :T

    Thanks Tara- next payday is on 17th of November. Should definately crack it then as £300 goes straight into the Abbey First Home Saver.

    Just keep your fingers crossed the MOT isn't a million quid!

    Hi all, I'd like to join the saving for a deposit thread. I have decided today that I am, so its the very start.

    I think I'll just set off as I mean to go on and update as and when.

    I have today managed to add £2,000 to my savings!!!

    My OH has owed me rent etc for quite a while since he was a student when he moved in and he just got his first pay cheque (including interest free loan from employer) and paid me everything back!

    Now on to the regular saving for both of us, hopefully at least £300pm each (but I'm only including my savings in my sig)
    Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

    Hello all! Just updating here (copied my post from the other saving thread, sorry to be lazy!).

    I have done a quick tot up. I managed to save £1,202 in October so I have £40,447 saved. WAYHEY!!!!!!!!!! I've reached £40,000!

    :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

    I am sooooo chuffed. I'm hoping to reach my goal by the end of 2010 (see sig), here's hoping I do it! I have a fair bit of Christmas shopping done thanks to glitches and grabbits, so hopefully the rest of the year won't be TOO expensive.

    I just can't get over that £40,000 figure. It doesn't seem real...

    I'm managed to hit £2000, didn't think I would get there by the end of the year So am really happy that I've done it in November
  • Signature updated after October savings were added! Can't believe there's only 2 pay days to go!! The toughest 2 months to save but I'm confident I can do it. If I put away the same amount in November and December that I have been recently I'll beat my target by just over £100.
    Deposit Saved -> £25000 Target -> £25000
    100% of the way there :j
    Target Date -> 31/12/2011
  • Hi guys,

    Can I jump aboard please? I've finally paid off the nearly £20k of credit card debt which I had, and am now ready to save for my house. I am thinking of a £15k deposit on a £150k-ish house. Does this seem reasonable to you? I've been reading that less than 25% deposits get much worse deals, however are they bad enough to put people off them completely? I'm desperate to stop renting!

    What things do you do to support your deposit building efforts? eBay etc? I have a PILE of belongings to sell which I'd rather see as bricks and mortar than their current incarnation!

    I've just put away £1500 into my house saving fund, aiming fo £15k by August 2011. Must update my signature to keep me motivated!
