    Can I join in?

I'm 22 and currently renting  with my OH and my LO.

I currently have approx £3393 in an egg savings account (3.25%, matures in September)

£2000 in shares which are increasing atm, as soon as they start to fall I will cash them in. (Total profit as my mum took them out for me and was due to give me them for my 21st but they value had fallen)

Need to really start whittling away the cash. My OH's loan is finished in June/July 2011 and my last car payment is August 2011 so I will then have an extra £300 a month. Trying atm to put away £200 p/m then anything extra from mystery shopping etc. I will have a pretty house and be paying my OWN mortgage by the time I'm 25!!!

    Welcome to the thread Nikki!!!

Well done with the total so far. Anything you can put away will help you in the long run :) my last car payment finishes this november so that should be another £200 i can put away each month :)

    What is your deposit target?

Thanks tara (and sf!). As for pics, maybe after it's a 100% done deal, but I'm wary of the internet and privacy issues so maybe not! :o

Edit: this one can't hurt, the view from upstairs. Shame about the pylons in the distance, but it would be rubbish if we had no electricity so I'll put up with them ;)

Congratulations MrDT, it sounds like you did really well to get a good deal and still have savings left over. That plays on my mind as to how much to keep in the account just in case vs higher equity stake.

Ah 2 years on and i finally did it.. saved enough for 33% equity in a house we want.. allowing us to get a 3.99% 5 year fix.

Was a long slog and lot of scrimping and savvyness but we did it. Just thought i'd post to give encouragement to others in this thread aiming to save for their house. Its doable and you dont have to become a hermit to do it :).

    :T Well done neas :j

Two years is quite a short time compared to others (me included). It must be a great feeling to achieve it. Ooh, I'm soooo envious :D. Hope you have a wonderful life in your new home :www:

2 years would be great (and unfortunately impossible), thankfully we have more time than that due to not even living in England yet. So we have at least 3-4 years, hopefully enough time to get to 30k (more would be nice).

Currently we have somewhere in the region of 6500 (depends on exchange rates) so well on our way, but still plenty to go. Have some other savings (maybe 2.5k) but thinking about ear-marking them for fees and costs.

Unfortunately anything we save could easily take a large bash when we eventually do move to England, since we're going to have to live in Spain for 6 months first, and whilst we intend to work, it may be that the savings get eaten into unfortunately (going to cost a lot just getting there, we need to be there for animal quarantine reasons).

Still, we'll probably have to work in the UK for a year or two to get a credit history, and suitably long visa for the OH. So maybe more saving time there. All in all, that gives me a mortgage at around the age of 32/33. Here's to paying it off by 50 :D (or at least moving to a final forever home and getting that all sorted not too much later).

Finally reached our deposit and moving costs goal as of yesterday.:T

Our flat has already been on the market 5weeks with no viewings:(, so we will continue to save in the meantime:).

Well done to the other which have reached thier goals too.
