Yours is more than ours! Keep saving hun..The posters who have a lot of money saved mustve started out like us...Wont be long and well be having big numbers in our savings too...Chin up:jI saved £4600 up to now, since around march '09. But looking at everyone elses totals, mine seems like a measely sum! And I'd love to keep saving up until the 30 or 40 thousand mark, but I feel like I'll miss the boat, so to speak, if I wait another 3 years or so. My target is around 14-15 thousand, and fees on top of that! House prices rose ridiculously in the last property boom, and I don't want to keep saving and let the prices become insane again. I suppose we can only sit and wait to see how fast they rise again!SAVING FOR OUR FIRST HOUSE DEPOSIT
15,000 NEEDED /35,000 SAVED SO FAR! :j0 -
Oh my god the stress!!!!
We have found "our" house, it is on the market for £280k but the agent made it clear that the vendors need to sell and are flexible on price because they are going through a divorce. We initially offered £250k which was turned down, they now have an offer of £260k from us but we wont find out until Monday. We didnt want to go over £250k because of the stamp duty but we both feel its worth it and it will be a family home we can grow into.
Its been a long time in the making but our 3 years of saving feels like its going to pay off.
Going over £250k will cost you an extra £5k in SD though... I would probably call their bluff and tell them that £250k is your final offer. But then I don't know how much you love this house.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

I know, it was painful going over 250k but i feel its worth doing because it gives us everything we want.0 -
Hi,
Just out of curiosity, at what age did you get onto the property ladder?
I'm now in my mid-twenties and it feels like I will never be able to afford to buy somewhere.
I am finding it difficult to find any work at the moment would like to keep saving anyway.0 -

We are 26&25, we are still at home and we have been saving for about 3 years.
Just about to make the jump, hopefully.0 -

Wow, can I ask how you's managed to save 65k by 25/26? Very high salaries? I am 25 this year and thought I was doing well having 8k saved so far for my deposit!!! lol. Although in my area a decent flat is in the region of 85-90k, considerably lower than parts in the south of england etc.0 -
mclaren32, I was amazed at your savings too, well done!!!!!!!

That is so exciting! I really hope they accept your offer, let us all know straight away. Well done as well at sticking it out at home for 3 years, it goes to show where some serious financial commitment can take you.

Hi all.
Well done to everyone saving for a deposit. I've been saving for a deposit with my boyfriend for our first home and this thread has kept me going when I've felt depressed and thinking we are never going to get there!
It's the most frustrating thing I've ever done. I am the most impatient person ever and to wait maybe 2 years seems like a daunting task but I guess it's really not that long!
We started properly saving October 09 when we both moved out of rented accomodation into both our parents homes. It's so hard being apart again and living like a teenager in a box room but it definitly spurs me on.
I'm on part time wage at the moment and my partner is on full time. We can (if we bascially live like hermits) save between us around £800 each month. Which is a hefty amount for what we earn. We decided that enjoying ourselves can stop for a bit and to save every last penny we have (literally!) for our deposit. We want nothing more than our own little place and so we put our lives on hold for a bit I guess! People say I should not stop living but then they all have homes!? lol
My totals are in my sig. Hoping this thread will continue to leave me with more good motivation! :j0 -
