Alizarin, you have still done really well!!!!! :T:T:T:TSo someone who has 20k of debt but earns £50k a year would give you nightmares...
You would prefer some who had saved 10k over 5 years and earns 15k per year?
or just the same 50k earner with no debt and 100k of savings! lol
Obviously the 3rd option LOL!!!I_want_a_baby wrote: »Hi all,
It wasn't easy I can assure you. My DH is an absolutley wonderful man but WAS very silly with money.
I met him when I was 17 was best friends with him for a year and then we starting going out. After another year passed we made plans to move intogether and then the truth came out. All that money had been spent on his beloved car, holidays and going out .
We had many discussions where the end result was my way or the highway! He took the IVA out just before he told me as he was saying im in trouble but I have sorted it out. And I was able to prove just how wrong he was. When we lived together we both had quite good & well paid jobs (about £40k between us per year), we ate only basics food, had £25pm between us for going out and doing things and the rest was bills and debt. I always told him if he wanted to keep me and my help to pay it off I would be in complete control of the money and he has always said yes and meant it.
We are now happily married with a child. He is the most wonderful father and husband, helping with night feeds, around the house, fantastic with my family including my father disabled with MS, helped me through many difficult family experiances etc.
I have organised the finances, we now have no debt, hp, cards anything, we own both our cars outright (combined value £5000), we have £6000 in a bill account so all bills/christmas/holidays etc are saved for), we have £10,000 for a house deposit, £3000 emergency savings and are able to afford for me to be a SAHM.
At the end of the day I loved my husband and could see that we would be together forever, he would be a great dad etc. In a way it has been a blessing in disguise. We now have £25pm each for our spends and £30pm to go out, a little treat called sky+ and we feel rich lol its true! This site has taught me about tesco rewards for dvd rental/going out, ebay for second hand stuff (2 sofas and a chair in green leather immaculate under £100 for all), we have bought solid lastign furniture with out wedding & engagment money we feel blessed.
I was just lucky my instinct was right about him, he could of easily let me pay it off and left me I suppose .
There is my life story - I can't believe no-one would have done the same thing. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
Stacey xx ...off to change login lol I got a baby now!

Wow, I can't even remember the last time I posted on this thread! I'll lie and say that I was so busy saving money that I didn't have time! (Real reason being exam revision and Christmas, which turned out slightly more expensive than budgeted for, but not by too much).
I didn't make my end of 2009 target of £3000 (10%) unfortunately. My current savings are £2900 (9.67%) and I'll hit 10% on 10th Feb when my usual £100 goes into my monthly saver.
I'm going to set a target by the end of 2010 of £6000 (20%). I don't think this is achievable as I'll most likely move house this year, but I'll try my hardest!
You weren't far off your target so you did pretty well! Good luck with this year's target too!ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -

hostie1985 wrote: »shrewsaver - well done in saving so much money! are you thinking about buying soon? or are you going to save some more?
Many thanks for that.
I won't be buying anything yet as a lot of the property around me is quite expensive, but with my brother buying a repo it has got me chomping at the bits as I would love to start with a blank canvas on a house.
I will not be saving much this year as am trying to pay one or two things off, may manage about £2,500 in savings but thats about it.

Well done Carrie! :T
Argh, it's my least favourite part of the month - 5 days until payday and all I want to do is move money ino my savings ... but I have to wait till I actually have the money first! How annoying!:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:

I got paid today ~ normally get paid on 24th but that's a Sunday this month. So transferred my 25% over and put the rent money to one side, and I still have some left :T :rotfl:.
I applied for a new job just before the New Year and have an interview on Thursday . It's a higher grade than I'm on at the moment and a lot more hours. This'll be good for the savings but not so good for my "poota time". I've also got a pre-op on Wednesday and the op on the following Tuesday to remove my gall bladder. I am not looking forward to that in the slightest.
