Help washing machine broke

Hi
Our washing machine has been gettin louder and louder when it spins and has been known to chew our clothes. It made such a noise the other night I had to shut it off and today it's making a really bad screaching noise, so it's time it went..I could do with some help looking for a realiable new one at a price between £199- £270.
I would really like zanussi as I had this before for ten years and never had a problem. I have only had this hotpoint one for 4 years and it has waited until the insurance run out.
Thanks for any help
jenjen:D

It might sound a bit cheeky, but have you checked there isn't a bra underwire stuck in it? Cos that happened to mine and it sounds v similar. try turning the drum with your hand to see if there's a clunk at any point...

Good idea, that might explain the 'chewing' of clothes too!

Have just got all the washing out and water and yes it goes round so far then gets stiff and clunks can't see anything stuck in there though..So I have someone ringing me back later to see when they have a look at it for me.
Thank you very much that didn't even occur to me.

Glad to have helped! Sometimes if you feel carefully around the inside of the rubber seal you can get a bit of purchase on the wire and gently pull it free yourself. ;)

You should be able to remove the top (UNPLUG IT!) and have a look down the side of the drum

I have to say I don't wear underwired bras anymore after that happened to mine - it's supposed to be better health-wise as well...

 This story sounds very familiar as 4 years ago my dear mother in law:rotfl: offered me her hotpoint washing machine as she was moving into a new apartment with all mod cons..anyway my dear husband loves his mum and decided to take the year old machine off her hands...the biggest mistake ever. I had a wonderful zanussi machine which at that point was 15 years old and had not had one single repair. Anyway I gave my zanussi to my niece and it's still going strong and guess what the hotpoint well and truly broke down last year and after 2 repairs it is now away to washing machine boneyard. The moral of this tale is stick to what you know. I have another zanussi washing machine now , however, I have been informed that Electrolux own them now...we'll wait to see how long this one lasts....but no more hotpoints.
