if there is no liability then they are in the BR pot is my understanding.
i said previously its very muddy waters
Then ive been told if a liability order has not been repaid in the 12 months following the BR it is then removed.
There is no mud in this water.
If you are up to date with c/tax then nothing goes in to the bankruptcy.
If you have missed instalments without being 7 days late following a reminder notice then only the missed instalments will go in to BR.
If for any year, including wherever you are in the current year, you have not brought an instalment up to date within 7 days and / or had a liability order or final demand then that whole year goes in to BR.
It is technically true that a levy on goods owed for c/tax arrears can continue after BR.(the arrears are still written off) In practice the council tend to recall the bailiffs on a BR order. In addition, the usual advice of keep the doors and windows locked and dont let them in still stands, then the warrany will be returned and that will be the end of the matter.

Hi. I have and currently am in same position as you. I have complained to local council and government but basically the debt is now yours. Sorry for the bad news. You need to go into the council offices, would be better if you had a member of CAB to help liaise also. Offer what you believe to be a reasonable amount. I offered £16.50 a month and am paying that for many years. Do not default this payment as bailiffs will likely come. They may request income and expenditure to be filled in. I used CAB as they worked this all out for me and i handed this into them. They kept asking for their own to be filled in but I kept sending CAB copy and eventually we came to an arrangement of £16.50. Allbeit due to my husbands debts now coming over to myself, I am now being forced into bankruptcy myself so this debt will be included. I have not taken this step lightly.0

Hi, my girlfriends ex partner went bankrup 3 times. They split up 15 months ago and she moved out. Today the council contacted her to inform her there were arrears from 4 years ago, but from after the BR date. He has since made a successful business land deal and made millions. Because he was bankrup at the point of the arrears they are chasing her, who doesn't have a penny to her name. He could pay very easily but the council aren't interested in his current position. Is this right?0

Sorry, but to be clear. What years do the council tax arrears relate to? When did he go bankrupt?0 -
The arrears relate to 2010, he went bankrup shortly after that, the same year I believe. I'll need to check exact dates.0

if he went bankrupt after the arrears, then he is no longer liable for those debts.
It doesn't matter how much money he has now, he can no longer be asked to repay those council tax arrears, so the council is right to chase his girlfriend who presumably lived with him at the time the arrears built up and was jointly liable for them.0
