Perhaps watching other breadmakers on youtube may be of some use to us newbies.
Just found one vid from an American breadmaking fella (using machine) which looks ok, perhaps other members could add their own vids for us to watch (of breadmaking before anyone gets cheeky!).

I don't think I have ever sat and watched a YouTube vid for 8+ minutes before, glad I did. I loved it when he took a bite, made me laugh.
Off to take a look at the comments and his other vids.0 -

Advice needed please, he doesn't say but would this be baked on the small loaf setting? I would imagine it is as the loaf doesn't rise above the tin and he only uses a total of 311g of flour.0 -

Hiya
If you're into baking by hand, Dan Lepard has some good videos on his site, too.

Well, this is the first one that I have made out of the 3 that wasn't a packet mix.
It has dropped slightly but otherwise it is soft, springy, light and tastes like brown bread.
Can't believe it.
I used the recipe from the YouTube video that I posted in another thread.
I think I may reduce the honey by 5g or so as it was slightly sweet.
The fella on YouTube put in flax seeds but I wanted to try and make something for our 8 year old to eat and I think I would be flogging a dead horse to get her to eat those.
You will see the recipe if you watch the video but here are the ingredients that I used - everything the same except I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil as it was the only one I had in.
225g water
228g wholewheat flour
83g white flour
30g honey
30g olive oil
15g flax seeds
½ tsp yeast
½ tsp salt
I used the medium colour setting and set for a small loaf.
Do you think I should change the honey to 25g and up the yeast to a teaspoon as it sank or will that be too much?

Well, it was def a success as my daughter doesn't usually like brown bread but this seems to be going down well.
Will be making another one tomorrow.0 -
Take a look at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=790743 to see how I got on with the YouTube recipe.0

Congrats on the bread!!:T :T :T ...I dont really know what to recommend regarding the recipe as I am a breadbaker newbie too :j but I am doing mine by hand. I simply cant do the quantities I require with a breadmachine. I made my first basic bread that was edible on the second attempt and am so pleased I have really got the bug :T ...the kids love it too! The first lot was a disaster as I made every mistake in the book..water too hot (killed off yeast!),not kneading for long enough ,oven too hot LOL!
I am finding this site so helpul and theres loads of good advice so I am sure someone will be able to help out!:DJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200
