Joint Mortgage/Sole ownership

Hi all, I have a problem with our mortgage being in joint names but the house only registered in my husbands name.
If I want to leave the property is there any way I can transfer the mortgage into his sole name?
Im not optimistic as Im the sole breadwinner.
We re-mortgaged in 2006 with GE (silly I know) and they did it with me named first as my husband had lost his job.
The original mortgage we had was in his sole name.
I have paid for this house solely for 6 out of the ten years we have been here.
Any ideas??

I very much doubt the lender would agree to this, as they would lose the right to chase you if he fell behind with payments.

Are you sure the house wasn't put in joint names at the time of remortgage. it is very unusual to have a joint mortgage secured on a property in only one name.

Yes Im sure, it was a remortgage, all we did was sign some forms and have a valuer round to value the proprty.

Its only worth around 75k and the mortgage is only 46k but as far as Im aware there are 2 charging orders on the property. One from a while back off the Co-op Bank altho they deny any knowledge of an account I had with them, and One from Cabot for a credit card in my husbands name.

It's difficult as Im sure I want to move out but I can't afford to pay mortgage and rent
  • anyone any ideas on this please?
