Advice on unsolicited parcel please

I've received a parcel containing a new YSL mens hoodie with price tags showing original price £79.99 (!) and reduced to £18. It arrived via Recorded Delivery and my husband signed for it but the parcel contained no details of the sender. Also included was a flyer for SportsDirect.com showing latest offers. Looks like it might have come from an eBay seller but I haven't bought from eBay since last year and my account is not showing any recent activity. The item is no good to anyone here but I'm a bit worried that as it was signed for, someone will be in touch at some point re payment. Advice appreciated.

How can the parcel be unsolicited yet "you" have received it? Is it addressed to you? What does the address label show? Is there a return address?
I'd repack it and take it to the post office get a receipt and let them sort it out for you. Tell them the delivery man made a mistake. If you had to sign there will possibly be a small delivery barcode or reference number and they should be able to find out about it from track and trace.
I was missing an item and after 2 weeks asked the company where it was. They said check at the post office. I did and it was there! It even had my address on it.
With regard to an unsolicited thing sent to you, if you know where its from you let them know you have received it and give them a reasonable amount of time to collect and if they don't then you get to keep or sell it. (if I remember correctly).
You're in trouble as you know its not yours but you can't tell the sender you have it.

I do believe it to be 'unsolicited' as I did not buy it or request that anyone send it to me. There was no ID of any kind on or in the parcel, apart from the Recorded Delivery sticker. I will take your advice and bring it back to my local post office and get a receipt - at least it gets it off my hands.0

You've not entered any on-line competitions have you?
Often they just issue a prize, with no details.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I think the correct procedure is to get in touch with the sender (if possible) and tell them to arrange for pick up.
You can not be charged for something you did not purchase or send for.
Usually with recorded delivery the senders name is on the back.0 -
No sender's details - very strange indeed. I haven't entered any competitions either. Will see what the Post Office have to say.

well if it has a sports direct flyer then its most likely sports direct.
they have a site and sell on amazon
when i got my new boxing gloves they came with a flyer
why not fire an email to them?
if you retun it via RM with no return address it will be destroyed
did it have your address on it?0 -
Sports direct also have a large number of retail outlets, you could perhaps take it back to your local store http://corp.sports-world.com/storefinder.htm

Like most things that get delivered to houses it will have the addressee's name and address on it otherwise the RM would not have tried to deliver it anywhere.
You could just keep it and hope that nobody can read your OH's handwriting or you won't be wearing next door's new birthday present.0
