Buying into Resorts
2 years ago, we accepted an invitation to a resort in which after the 90 minute tour, we got carried away and paid down $295 to buy into this. We signed a contract & were given benefits such as travel vouchers, hotel stays at no charge or good discounts. We had 7 days to change our minds. We got caught up in this, but unfortunately let it slide. We decided this was not affordable for us, and we were just caught up in the moment. We called the salesperson & declined, but he ask that we come out to dinner at the club before we make our decision. We did and we still did not want this. We never went there again, nor did we use any of the fringe benefits of being a member. I lost the $295 down payment of coarse, and now they are threatening to obtain my home or whatever other means they must take to collect $3200 they say we owe. We were suppose to be paying $100 per month. Is there anything these people can do to us? ???

It's going to be very difficult for anyone here to advise. You will need to read the terms of the contract you have signed. There should be details of how you cancel the contract and what the charges are, if you do.
As for obtaining your home .... the contract would have needed to include some kind of charge over your home. Otherwise, the only way to get a charge now is to apply for a charging order via the Court. This would be unusual and, in the this country, the creditor would need to obtain a CCJ for the debt first. And then you would need to default on the CCJ.
Very difficult to offer you any suggestions .. can you post any details of what the contract states? Please also confirm that you are in the UK and the Resort was in the US ...? Or post detailsWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

according to their profile they are based in the US so I guess a lot of peoples knowledge on contracts/legal system only extends to UK issues. Not sure whether there is US equivalent of CItizens Advice Bureau as first point of call?0
