John Lewis Never Knowingly Undersold

I plan to buy a Humax PVR shortly but am waiting for John Lewis to confirm that their "Never Knowingly Undersold" policy applies to items selling for less in any UK shop as it states on their website. They are saying that it only applies to prices within a 30 miles of their store.

Extracted from website "If you have purchased an item from one of our shops and then find the same item selling for less in any UK shop, we will refund the difference."
This does not mention a 30 miles limit so I am not giving up. Has anybody else had problems with JL on this promise?

If you can find it cheaper elsewhere then why not buy it from elsewhere?

Or are you implying you'd rather buy it from JL because they offer something the "elsewhere" doesn't offer?

Why not front the issue up and tell them you only want to pay X for their stuff as you don't want to fund the ethical way they treat their employees and you don't want the assistant having a share in the profits? But you still want the excellent service they provide and the guarantee and the peace of mind their distinguished trading history gives you. Also you like the fact you walk out of the shop with the stuff rather than the risk of the stuff not turning up.

If you want it from JL you have to pay the price they are offering it for. Its called an "invitation to treat". I think its fare.

I'd say 30mile radius is fare as all the shops are competing in a roughly even market. You just have to do the legwork to find the cheapest shop, a bit more difficult than google jockying.

Lets hope you don't end up buying from a company like this.

    Cheapest is rarely best.

Been out to feed the birds and on reflection I wholeheartedly apologise for posting off topic.

By the way the only reference to distance with regard to the "never knowingly" was a trial and 8 miles. Still since this only relates to phyiscal shops I suppose you need to pop into a shop and ask there.

It merely says that they check for 30 miles around (rubbish) you can get it matched anywhere (again rubbish). It's hard to get them to match in general as they always find some little quibble like it wasn't on display or no price on the shelf or the shop isn't one we match to?!?!

For never knowingly undersold have a look at the differences:

    http://www.johnlewis.com/230472661/Product.aspx

    and

    http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pl/2-1005330/TVs/Sony-Bravia-KDL-40X3000-Compare-Prices

(sony 40x3000 incase either don't work)

now some of those are over 25% cheaper, how can they not know this and legally still spout their never knowingly undersold?

The lower prices on pricerunner all appear to be online retailers, so are not covered by the price guarantee. Also, JL Direct prices vary from their instore prices, so the comparison doesn't really count.

With regard to the OP's original question, the price guarantee is discretionary, so they can apply whatever constraints they wish.

Is the comparison store you have found within 30 miles of any JL store? If so, get the closest store to pricematch it and then deliver to you (usually £5 or free).
    Gone ... or have I?

This is a Money Saving Forum not an Ethical Shopping Forum!

Part of the JLP invitation is their "Never Knowingly Undersold" policy and they use it often enough in their adverts so should not be surprised if I want to test that policy.

The store price I am asking them to agree to apply the KKU policy to is in a chain of shops based in the north west. The same company also trade on the internet. I want JLP to confirm they will refund the price difference before I agree to buy the PVR from them. The reason I want to buy from a local store is that although the PVR has very good reviews (I checked many websites) some of the units appear to have problems. I would rather take an item back to store and get it sorted 'face to face' than spend hours on the phone or on emails trying to get a problem sorted.

I would buy from another high street store but they price match to a local store only. I don't know any store , other than JLP, who refunds the price difference if you find a cheaper price in any store in the UK.

I have not purchased the PVR yet as it is now out of stock in the store with the best price - same as JLP Stores in Ox St, Brent X and Welwyn. I spent too long faffing about with JLP trying to get them to confirm they would refund the price difference if I purchased from them.

As my trusted VCR packed up at the weekend I think I will purchase from Dixons as they have stock and they are as cheap as most - under £160 incl delivery.

If you have any horror stories about https://www.dixons, please share them with me before I place my order tomorrow.

I believe John Lewis policy is that if you can buy the item in a shop, and its instock they will refund the difference. I don't think they will pricematch internet shops, or where the item has to be ordered in.

The reason for buying from john lewis is that they offer a five year guarentee and are very good about taking things back.

Haggerty, if I am not too late, ebuyer had a pvr for under £50. Good reviews on the site, but not found any other reviews yet.

JLP offer a two year warranty on this item - this is the same everywhere with the Humax - but they sell a further years warranty.

I will check eBuyer but I would rather buy the Humax as I have researched this fully

    Cheers
