argos returns

Options
Hi, I'm pretty new and i apologise for the stupidness of this question, but I'm not quite sure where else to ask.

I just bought a keyboard from Argos only to discover whenever it is played you can hear a loud buzz in the background, as loud as the notes, so I want to return it. Before i get fobbed off I'd like to make sure I know what I'm doing.

Returning it in the original packaging as per their 30 days returns policy is not possible due to the fact that the plastic bag inner packaging was so tight it ripped when i tried to put it back on. Also I'd like to get my money back rather than vouchers or a replacement since I am not happy with the overall quality of the keyboard and don't want to drag it all the way home again only to discover another faulty model, is this within my rights?

Also I bought a stand for half price with the item that under the 30 day returns policy has to be returned with the item. It's not that bad a stand. Do i have to return that?

Many thanks.

The item isn't fit for purpose, so you're within your rights to return it for a refund. Take a look at the Sale of Goods act, and Consumer Direct website for more info.

You'll probably have to return the stand too.

My OH bought a food processer last July and it seddenly stopped working. He had lost the receipt and didn't have his bank statement so wasn't confident. However they traced back the transaction using his card details and gav e him a replacement! We are very impressed.:j

i used to work in an argos direct warehouse & have witnessed items returned in all kinds of conditions, i wouldnt worry too much about returning the item in the original packaging, if the bag is ripped, either put it in a new bag or wrap it in cling film.

items that are returned are logged, thrown onto pallets and stacked in cages/stillages and sold onto traders in job lots. only unopened packages are re-sold.
i would assume that the same principle applies to items purchased via stores as well as through argos direct.

Depending on when you bought it, will depend on what your entitled to.

If within 30 days, you can still get a refund by the method of payment, as the item is faulty, regardless of wether or not you have the original packaging.

If not, if the item can't be repaired, it will be replaced. If you do not want a replacement, you will receive gift vouchers to the value.

The good news is, the stand you can keep! But the balance, ie the half of the original price you saved, will be deducted from any refund you receive.
