One other thing - you're used to having a detached place... what's it going to be like to go back to a semi? Of course, you were planning to downsize anyway, but that might still have been detached. Just a thought!

I assume your intention is to remortgage to get funds for the conversion work. Given your credit histories (what's a DMP BTW?) I think you may struggle to remortgage in the current climate. Therefore, you really need to consider options which do not require a remortgage.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Karmacat thanks for your reply - yes this would make the house more like a terrace rather than a semi as currently a semi. This could certainly change atmoshere of the place, perhaps make the place generally less desirable.

Jonbvn - thanks for your reply a DMP is a debt management plan. I've been thinking about how this could be financed and one thought - after our debts are repaid, hopefully in 2 years!!! - start making serious money saving plans. Using the same amount of money we have been paying monthly towards the debts. This makes the plan a bit more long term than I orginally intended but could be a way of doing this.
