worried newbie - please be gentle

If you need a wee or your favourite telly's on then you may wanna skip this one as it goes on a bit.

Ive been reading the threads on this site for the last few weeks (usually at night when I am stressing most) and have found them really encouraging, especially the fact that all most have been in the same boat though for various reasons. I am going b/c shortly and have only so far confided in my mom. I had always sailed close to the wind in terms of having loads of ccards loans etc but a well paid job meant I could bury my head in the sand for some years which was fine until.. I became quite ill after an undiagnosed eptopic pregnancy left me having emergency surgery, the end of my relationship, off work and very poorly with depression. I had to give up work and with my short sightedness and fairly hedonistic life had never bothered with insurances. that was about two years ago. To cut a long and boring story short I have a new job - less money and a lot less stress, gave my keys back to NRock and am now renting. i have paid "bits to various creditors but again have not wanted to face reality- so far they are just sending letters and agents but Im never in. So I intend to take my head out the sand and will declare BC the end of the month. I spoke to the CCC months ago who were really good.So far no one has forced me bankrupt and I hope that remains the same for a few more weeks.Thing is where I am living at the mo is'nt very good - very noisy. Ive found somewhere nicer thru a private landlord - nothing in agreement about b/c I hope to move before I go to the court. My worry is the property is on a gated courtyard shared with another house and a business, If I dont tell the land lord is he likely to get OR's and "others" coming whilst Im at work after the bankcruptcy - shall I just risk it and tell him before I sign up or is it safer to stay put as this landlord is friend of family and wouldnt be bothered anyway. Apologies about rambling but its been theraputic if nothing else. You can stop snoring now. thank you.

Sign up before BR. OR's do not come to visit you!! Interviews are usually conducted on the telephone or you go to see them.

No-one will come visiting. Don't tell your creditors about the move, the OR will deal with them (unless you have borrowed form loan sharks and you need help from the police!). Creditors are not permitted to chase you after BR (although some seem to ignore that and need threats about ombudman and the like.

    Best of luck

    Hi tenterhooks and welcome :)

As skylight says, the OR does not come to visit you, so have no worries there :)

In your position, I'd move asap; get your post re-directed by Royal Mail so you can keep all your statements etc.... for the OR, but you don't need to tell your creditors your new address.

Best of luck to you and any questions about any of it, don't hesitate to ask :)
You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that :p

They check your credit history/your BR forms, get details of all loans/credit cards/bank accounts and see what you have been spending money on.

Obviously a large purchase to Sothebys would be noticed!

In addition to what the others have already said, the OR relies to a large extent on trust. Plus the fact that it's a serious offence to tell porkies to the OR or hide assets.
