what sort of salary should I be looking for?

My current salary is £15K (no degree just 'A'levels). I've got 19 years worth of work experience behind me, 5 of which is in my current field of accounts administration & office management although I've always worked in the financial field.

Where I am I can walk to work but realistically I know to earn more £££'s I'm going to have to travel further afield to work. Unless I can get work in the city centre (and I can catch the train) I realise that I'm going to have to use the car.

What I guess I'm asking is how to other people calculate their travel to work costs so they can judge whether a salary is work the trip?

AA website gives pence per mileage figures to include maintenance, tax etc and you certainly ought to use that rather than 'raw fuel' costs.

Plus add on personal wear and tear, make sure you won't end up spending more on fast food because you'll be out of the house for longer etc.

Don't know if that gives you a starting point?

I just want to make sure that when I move I am actually going to be better off!

untill recently i was in the opposite situation - worked 35 miles away which took me about an hour in the car, i know work for same wage 20 miles away which only takes me 30 minutes to get to. Also the new job is for the same momey but less hours.

I know which one i prefer!

I know what you mean.....15 minute walk and I'm home.

The trouble is, is that whilst the owner of the company is very laid back and is brillant when you need time off I've have concerns about the business.....ie being paid late, don't think IR is being paid, company always being chased for money it owes.

Murtle - thanks for the link....will have a look now.
