Dan, I should be clear that one cant just become a specialist. You need the right knowledge and aptitude.
To demonstrate what I mean take a case I had last week. 6 packagers said the case could not be done, and some of these were very experienced decent packagers.
I then went on to place the case, but it really did test my resolve and patience.

When I was employed as a manager we found that the difference between the top 2% of brokers and the rest was simply attitude.
A stubborn, unrelenting, never take no for an answer attitude is the best tool a broker can have.

If you think about it the best chefs, say the top 2%, can be very high achievers with thier own business's. Now you would think the other chefs would simply copy what the best do, but they cant, it's simply beyond them, for example they would not have the intensly fussy nature that is essential to becomming a top chef - you cant learn that fussiness and intensity.

If I get a case declined I will go to the enth degree to get that decision over tunrned. Im not clever or special, but I have just learned over the years that Humans make lots of idiotic decisions and they must be challenged. It takes its toll on me though - forever battling people.
