What would you do?

I bought an item from an online retailer in December costing over £1,000 on a credit card with a 0% promotional interest rate on purchases. The promotional rate expires in April.

The retailer has recently sent me an email saying that the item has been returned and they have refunded my credit card. I have just received my credit card statement which confirms this. I have not returned the item or asked for a refund.

It has always been my intention to pay off the balance and close the credit card account this month.

I know what I should do but...

You know what you should do but....I think its depends on your morals. Personally if I was in your situation I would base my decision on a number of things; how big is the company, what is there reputation like, could I afford to pay for the item if it unexpectedly came to light at a later date, would I be able to sleep at night? Then I'd call them and explain their mistake, but feel free not to take my advice I've often been told I'm a mug who is too honest for their own good.

I would also say only you know if you could live with saying nothing and wondering if it will come back to bite you!If this a admin error someone will soon be demanding their money from the company and l presume they have ways of back checking and you would be found out.Like the other responder l couldnt do it but thats me but think hard!!!

Just to let you know, I phoned Amazon on Monday to point out their error but wish I hadn't bothered. There was no thank you for pointing out their major mistake.

"Are you sure you've not returned the TV?...OK, I've arranged a chargeback on your credit card. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"

£1,200 was taken from my Amazon credit card today. A small gesture of appreciation wouldn't have gone amiss.
