  • Hello All, :hello:

I know many of you have contributed to this thread in the past, but being a "newbie" to the site, I am still struggling to find my way around it. So, please excuse me if my question has been asked and answered before.

I have been using white vinegar as my fabric conditioner for a while now and I am very pleased with the results. However, I now need to replenish my stock. Can somebody please tell me this, is the White Vinegar which I bought from my local chinese food wholesaler in a 1 litre container, the same as the Distilled White Vinegar which Sainsburys sell.

    Thanks.

Yes, it is. I don't use Fabric Conditioner at all, at the moment, but would like to use vinegar.

How much do you use and do you put it in the FC compartment in the drawer, like "normal" FC?
  • Afternoon Seabright,

I've been using vinegar for a while now, and all I do is add it to the fc compartment of the machine up to the maximum mark. Prior to this in the past I did add drops of essential oil to the vinegar container itself, but to be honest, it didnt make any difference at all. Once the washing is on the line any "slight" (and I mean slight) whiff of vinegar disappears and all you are left with is a lovely clean smell. I wish I had discovered this years ago!!:T

Yes, the vinegar is the same stuff. Any distilled white vinegar will do (not pickling vinegar as it has spices in it which might be a bit uncomfortable if your knickers are rinsed with it )

I love the extra fresh smell that vinegar seems to give, and the fact it keeps the machine limescale free :D

I have used white vinegar instead of FC for around 10 years and my bath towels and hand towels are beautifully soft .I cannot abide the smell of vinegar so I hold my nose when putting it in the WM.But it works and is a darn sight cheaper and nicer to your clothes than FC with its artificial smells

Vinegar smell disappears once the washing dries - you can actually rinse your hair in vinegar to make it shine too. Some people use cider vinegar but white vinegar works fine. Also I heard that regular fabric conditioner is really bad for washing machines? I know it reduces the absorbency of towels etc.
