Hi,
My dad is in a large amount of debt - I believe roughly 60k. Which include credit cards, loans and his mortgage/remortgage.
We don't live with my dad, but he has mentioned that it is looking likely that he will have to sell his house come the autumn. And whilst my mum has offered him a place to stay here (dreaded thought - I love my dad, but am glad we dont live with him), but he has turned it down saying he doesnt want charity.
He is a self-employed sales man that I believe is barely making any income, and his out-goings are minimum 2k a month.
I was wondering are there any benefits that the self-employed are entitled to and how much they would be?
He is actually an avid fan of MSE, but I do not feel I can talk to him about his debt, or how I can help him, and I feel at quite a loss at what to do. Anyone got any recommendations of things I could suggest without invading his privacy too much?
Thanks in advance,
Kitten

Hi,
Where have you got the info that he is in debt from and that his outgoings are minimum 2K per month (as you say you can't talk to him about debt)?
If you are unable to discuss it with him then the best you can do is recommend that he reads the debt info on this site and make him aware that contacting CAB or CCCS about his debts is confidential if he needs any help.
Really if he's not going to discuss this with you there's not a lot more you can do about it.Torgwen..........
